I just saw on the news that a woman saw what she thought was a domestic house cat on the road and stopped to rescue it. She put it in the back of her car and drove to the nearest animal hospital. Well they informed her that it was a wild bobcat!
They said she was lucky she didnt get mauled. It was cute though

Then they showed them giving it a big fat rat to munch on

I'm looking for a story about it on the web but have been unsuccessful so far.

OMG.Had it been HBC??

I'm suprised too that she didn't get eat up unless it was someone's pet that got loose or someone just got tired of it and threw it out.

vettechstudent, what does HBC stand for?

I'm really surprised that lady thought it was a domestic cat. Was it a tiny kitten?

Sicy, check the websites for your local TV stations, they might have a story posted.

Actually they didnt say it was injured.. I'm thinking she just thought she should rescue it?? It looked about the size of a large domestic cat. It was probably a kitten. I keep checking my local news websites but no luck! It was only like a 5 minute story

Must have been domesticated. I don't think a wild one would be willing to be touched by a person, let alone picked up and driven to the vet!

A smilair event happen in Arizona several years ago. Some guys thought the were rescuing a dog that had been hit by a car. They took it to a vet and asked if how they could try and find the owner. The vet told them not to worry, because they had rescue a coyote.

If you're the type of person that's going to rescue an injured animal that you notice while driving, you should have these things in your car.

1) Old towels - soak up blood and to cover and wrap the injured animal in.

2) Gloves - Rubber gloves and those of the really good gardening variety, preferably long ones and make sure they fit. Claws can be deadly.

3) Contact number of a good 24 hour vet surgery.

4) Large plastic garbage bags - You can line the back seat with them, or place a dead body in them.

5) Scissors - You may need to cut something.

6) Old rags - Great for making an emergency dressing.

7) Carry cage - Can place an injured animal in one.

8) Clean water - Wash wounds, (if possible), or provided as drinking water.

9) Small sturdy ventilated box - Smaller animals like rodents, lizards and birds can easily die from shock as with larger animals. A box with little light that's kept warm can help prevent this and aid with recovery.

BEFORE attempting any rescue, excercise EXTREME caution as an animal in pain can lash out at you and can cause serious injuries. If you are not sure in any way, call for help.
