Hello,

So I recently got another cat and need to take care of him for next 2 weeks.

He is very shy cat, but his behavior is very similar to my cat so nothing strange. (He is actually my cat's brother).

But what's driving me crazy is that he cries/howls a lot every night!

When my cat first came to my home (1.5 years ago), she cried about 2 days, and gradually decreased.

He is not! He cries even more every night that not only I cannot sleep, but also it creates big noise to my neighbor (I live in apartment).

I am honestly scared that I will start getting noise complaint because of him.

What's weird is that he is shy and still being skittish about everything, and he is very quiet until I am about to go to bed.

When I turn off the light, lay down on my bed, that's when he starts crying.

I tried turning on light and radio all night but no changes.

Both my cat and he is spayed and neutered so it's nothing to do with it.

What do I need to do in order to make him cries less? I am very frustrated right now because he actually cries very loud too, everywhere in my apartment. :(

Honestly, the only thing I think is likely to work is ignoring him entirely.  He is doing it to get a reaction or attention, and to some degree he's gotten it- you turned on the light and radio.

Buy some high quality ear plugs and ignore him.  It will stop eventually, though honestly, since you have him for such a short time, it may not stop by the time he leaves you.

As for your neighbor, I'd go over and be totally honest and upfront about what's going on.  Buy a pair of earplugs for him/her too (or more if more than one person lives there), be SUPER apologetic, and explain no matter what the cat will be gone in a week and a half. I think doing something like this is really your best chance for avoiding a noise complaint.

Are you putting him in another room or does he sleep with you?
How old is he?
When was he taken away from mom?
How long have you had him?
Has he been to the vet for a check up?
Was he taken away from other feline companion?
