grain like things where coming out of his butt for few days and also grain like things where in his poop. I gave him deworming syrup 4 days ago and as per vets prescription again today I gave him another deworming syrup, and just now Brownie vomited a full tapeworm ! what to do? will he die? or did the worm came out because of the deworming medication? (Brownie is 2 year 9 month old )

ps : it was not roundworm, it's was a tapeworm I am 100% sure. it's mid night here, and we don't have emergency clinic, so will have to call the vet in the morning

I'm sorry no one replied sooner. How is he doing now?  What did the vet say?

How frightening to see a full blown tapeworm come out of your kitty!! Ugh, I wouldn't get over that visual for some time that's for sure!

Your cat will be just fine. The med worked obviously, most of the time the cat will have it come out in his poop, but lucky you!!

Med killed the worm so it lost it's grip (they hold on with their hook mouths) and out it came.

Prevention is simply flea treatments regularly. They get tapeworms from infected fleas they chew on when they have fleas. Those nasty squirming rice bits in his poop and around his but are segments that are filled with eggs, which is how it goes from cat to cat, sharing boxes.

I'm so sorry for that. It can be pretty terrifying. But here's what the Vet told me: this is perfectly normal and it happens because the worms are dying. When they do, they move around ( a lot!) and that movement causes your kitty to become nauseous and vomit. My vet was so overjoyed to have the full intact worm that he kept it in a jar for others to see.
I will tell you this though, I almost joined the cat in adding to the vomit mess! To this day I cannot eat the type of pasta that looks like it.

Egads........that's all I have to say :) And I've seen alot of pretty bad stuff.................it's just like the segments, they are so gross to me, doubt I will ever grow accustomed to seeing those.

Vet was overjoyed.....oh great! haha!

I only just saw this one too. Wish I'd seen it sooner. Hopefully your kitty is fine now, but you may have to treat all of them. It is absolutely horrifying when that happens, but your baby should be fine . I wrote another post on this to explain why that sometimes happens, according to my vet. Hope that helps.

Egads indeed! And yes he was thrilled because it's pretty rare to get the whole thing. I'm pretty sure there were more cats getting wormed with that as an example....whatcha think?
