I keep losing my paragraph.leave the cage out. Put something soft in it. If he goes in to sit/lie down/goes to sleep ignore him.
When I had to take blighty who weighs about a ton, I managed to pick him up firmly. Charles helDarwin thecage at the level blighty was and I bunged hhim in before he even knew what was happening. We thought it would take about an hour. It was so easy. Get your friend to help you but she must stay outside the room ready with cage door open and level and just shove him in quick smart.
sorry about all the pieces. My phone and the site don't get on well. Does your vet make house calls?
Sorry about how this message came out.
hugs.

AWWWWWWW!!!! Very, very sweet. I am glad you adopted Happy too. I said no dogs after my Wilbur and Henry, but now I have TWO more Jack's. :lol3:

Sorry about the stress for you and Pi trying to get him in the crate. I always like to suggest keeping the crate in the kitties room all the time with the door propped open and feeding them meals inside the carrier, especially in the beginning of socialization for the sole purpose of getting the cat to the vet. Then on vet day - you just close them in when the cat goes in to eat. Just make sure on vet day that you use something REALLY yummy and make it a small treat so IF the cat thrashes around a bit once you close the door, there will not be a HUGE mess of food scattered all over the carrier and the cat. ;)

Judy keep him in tomorrow to let him forget about the cage business. That was a trauma. You can't let him out after what happened today.

Well you just made up my mind for me Stewball. I was going to let him out because he's been asking to go out for the last few days but wondering when and if he'd come back even though we have over a foot of snow out there. He finally came out from behind the piano and sofa. He let me pat and rub him. But when I touched him near where I put my hands when I tried to pick him up he ran away. I think he should stay in the house with a lot of loving tomorrow. Maybe I'll open the door to my porch and let him and Happy go out there. It's the next best thing to going outside because it is glassed in. It is not a heated porch that is used in winter only spring summer and early fall. I close it in late October and open it in mid April. But I can put a portable ceramic heater out there tomorrow and it should be fine for them especially when the sun gets into the southern sky as the porch faces south. Happy loves it out there maybe Pi will too. Problem is I will be away from home for about 4 hours day after tomorrow so he can't go out until Friday at the earliest and who knows what weather we will have then! My friend is a wonderful person and I am so grateful for her being here but it doesn't make my situation with Pi easier rather more difficult. He is leary of her and she really thinks I should let him out and that he won't stay out long.

I think the longer you can keep him in the better.
you're obviously going to have trouble taking him to the vet. I have it with blighty. Whisky is such a good little boy. He causes no problems. You took samples to the vet didn't you?
How is his eye?
Poor little boy. The things we have to do to our babies for their own good but they don't understand that.
Does he let you pick him up? Blighty is very hard to. He manages to get his bulk away quite quickly and then comes back like nothing's happened. He slides through my fingers.
Good luck and have a good day. I'll be thinking of you and pi.
hugs.

Just read about the trouble getting Pi into his carrier for the vet visit.  My cat, Ruby, hates to be picked up, thus getting her in the carrier for a vet visit was difficult to say the least.

My vet suggested a technique which has helped a lot with Ruby.   Put the carrier up on a high surface (table, desk, etc) then pick up the cat and point them into the carrier.  Because they are up high there is nowhere to go except in the carrier. Once cat is in carrier, shut the door.

I tried it last time Ruby had to go to the vet and it really worked.  So that is something you might want to try with Pi.  And, of course, wear your coat to protect from scratches.

Good luck!

Thank you for the tip. I will surely try it WITH my coat on next time!

Hi pi pi I think you should keep him in to. It just going to be so cold out and they keep calling for snow. I have a friend that has a glass porch not heated and that is were her 2 babies stay . She puts a heater in there. My bella really is so frightened of my husband and I just leave bell in the bedroom. He just loves being warm. A lot of times he does cry at the door but I just open the door and he runs back to the bedroom. I think he is losing his heavy winter coat . Keep us posted. It's alawys hard getting cats in a carrier.

Yes Stewball I did take stool samples to the vet, one for Pi and one for Happy to be sure he hasn't picked up Pi's worms. His eye seems a bit better. Maybe it was just a cold. He's had it on and off for about 6 weeks I'd guess. Yesterday he wasn't squinting it so much and there was no discharge. I pray the vet will prescribe a medication for the worms once the results are in and not insist on examining him first. Pi has never been examined by my vet only the vet from PetRescue NY where he was neutered in their TNR program. He was given a 3 year rabies vaccination there as well and examined for all feline diseases. They are a wonderful organization. I adopted Happy for them. My friend is going on a short visit to Stamford, CT today which is about a half hour drive north of here. She likes to visit several antique shops in that area when she comes to stay here. That will give Pi some "normal" time with his new mom and brother. Maybe it will help to calm his nerves. My friend leaves for her home on Sunday and Pi can go into his beloved garage to play and run around again in addition to the house! Stewball you asked if the vet makes house calls. In the USA doctors no longer make house calls--neither people doctors nor vets! It's sad that practice stopped. It was probably over 50 years ago it did. They have too many patients now to do that. MAYBE in some rural areas they still do but it's rare if they do. Well, must get up, dressed and downstairs to see how my little Pi-Pi is today.

That paragraph will be done again.
Do you leave the cage out with the door open with something soft to make it comfortable. Don't out treats in it. Ignore it. Eventually he will go in to sleep. Don't
make a big deal out ofor it. Just leave the cage there. When we had to get blighty to the vet I picked him up andb held

Another way that people have suggested is cover him with a towel so he can't see. I haven't tried that yet. Hopefully I'll only have to go once a year fingers crossed or, as we do, pretend to spit 3 times!!! It's a tradition coming for 100's of years. It's really against the evil eye. Very primitive. I really only started doing it as I hit old age.
Have a bathes pi'a eye with cotton wool dampened with warm water. Keeps it clean and soothes.
I've been lucky with my catsister and illnesses spit three times lol. We have lots of traditions.
I'm sure pi will be glad to have his home back to normal with only his mum and sibling.
My vet comes to the house. Of course if it's for a full examination I have to go there. The problem is the weight. The vet is in walking distance and I don't drive and I find carrying them very hard especially because I have a bad back as does half the world. I usually go when my ex is home from work and he carries them. Once I adopted 2 adorable sisters and I had to take them and lotto, who was no light weight

I took them together. The babies in one cage and lotto in the other. Coming home was terrible. I cut through a little park and there was a group of twen age boys. They asked if I was managing and then one detached himself and carried them home for me. Nice child.
After a month of happiness it was discovered that the sisters had FIP. I was desolate and worried about my lotto whowas an oold man.
There that story should cheer you up. :-)
Both my boys are a bit worried. We're having a sort of sandstorm and the wind frightened them.
It's 3.15pm. I'm trying to find out the time difference between us. You're a few hours behind me.
hugs.

Girls I just was reading about someone who posted about there feral cat . Did you know that cats can get disoriented with new layers of snow. That's why it could take time for them to come back. And that if there in the house to long they can lose a lot of there winter coat? I did not know all this.

Thanks for the info about getting disoriented in the snow. Maybe that's why Pi went out after that first big snow storm we had and didn't come home until 10 PM. I think that was February 4th. Normally he's home by 4 PM and I was nearly hysterical with worry. As far as losing some of their winter coat indoors it makes perfect sense. I am hoping that because he has been inside for now 2 weeks with only out for a couple of minutes on 3 mornings last week that when I do let him out again he will not like the cold and return after a short time of his own mind.

Stewball, I received this post at approximately 8:40 this morning (Wednesday). Does that help you with time?

Thanks for all the helpful info and good stories!

Hugs back at you!

Well there is good news today! Happy does not have worms! It was confirmed that Pi has round worms and the vet did prescribe a powder called Panacur--a dewormer. I have to put it in his wet food once a day for 5 days. Then I have to bring him another stool sample in exactly 2 weeks to see that it has worked. I will bring in another sample from Happy as well just to be sure he didn't pick up any after the first sample was taken. I made up a small portion of Pi's favorite Blue Wilderness Trout pate and mixed in a bit of people canned tuna as well. Then I thoroughly mixed in the Panacur, put a couple of treats around the edges and presented it to him. Thank goodness he was hungry and dove on it. He didn't eat much yesterday because of all the trauma with the pet carrier and cleaning woman. He ate every lick--hooray! One down and four to go.

Its strange, I have the door open to my glassed in porch from which he can see 3 sides of my yard. He's never been out there. I put a portable heater out there this morning and Happy is enjoying it out there but Pi is too skittish about it to go out. I thought he'd love it wanting to go outside and all. But, he just goes to the door, stretches his body out as far as he can, looks around then goes back into the living room. Right now he's under a chair in there sleeping while Happy is snoozing on the nice sunny porch. Sigh!
