hey everyone :)
I'm thinking of adopting a kitten for Christmas. I'm unsure of the breed (Unless I would just get a tabby from the spca) But I'd possibly get a Ragdoll X with something kitten.

Here's the problem.
I'd like to get my kitty and have it on Christmas Day (Who wouldnt!) but we are moving in January. Would having new surroundings in that short space of time Be too much for the kitten?

What is the shortest time frame for this kind of thing?
Any other information that is relevant to this topic would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :))

~Nicklaus from New Zealand (Where it's summer now!!! So it's kitten season!!)

i suggest you wait. you never know how it is going to go when you take a kitten into your home--the big change alone can cause stress and sometimes health issues for the little guy, not to mention different kittens have different personalities and you won't know who you've got right away. for many reasons, you will not want to be making such a big change only weeks into having your new kitty: if for some reason he gets sick, you will be dealing with moving and a sick kitty. even in a perfect health scenario, you will be giving this kitty a whole new world only to uproot him within a month.
finally, and with all due respect, i worry about your saying you want to adopt a kitten for christmas. people sometimes fall in love with the idea of snuggly little animals on and for the holidays and fail to think through the 20-year commitment that follows. christmas day means nothing to a kitten--it is just a regular day--but humans are the ones who designate it a special day. to want to have a kitten for this day, for you, without considering how that much avoidable change would affect a little kitty feels selfish to me. wait it out. if you still want a kitty after the holiday season passes and you have moved and are stable for the time being, adopt a cat then. too many kitties end up back at the shelter when people are done taking their kitty-in-a-stocking photos and the novelty has worn off.
my two cents.

Hi thanks for your input :)

I agree with you that it may be extremely stressful so I'll probably end up delaying until Mid-January. We have a perfect lifestyle for a cat at our new house so we will be able to care for it for 20 or maybe even more years.

Thanks again
