Lost my beautiful baby boy RASCAL EARLY TODAY:......it's been a rough road for all of us, but especially my little sweetheart. He suffered, sadly, no matter what I or the Vet tried. Despite negative blood work the vet still decided that it was FIP after all. We miss him terribly.....all of us, including his furry friends. They are looking for him everywhere, as am I , I think I will miss him until we reunite at the Bridge. Such innocent and enduring love can never be lost! I believe that with all the tiny pieces of my heart. No more pain sweet boy, Mommy will love you forever.........rest well and in peace my baby.

Thank you all so very much for your kind thoughts and shared grief. I know many of you have gone- or are going through much the same things with your babies.
They are our little fur-children too, and we love them just as much as our own children. To me they've always been LOVE in it's purest form......unconditional! The avatar picture is Rascal, about a month after he came to us. I took a couple this morning too as he gazed lovingly into my eyes....but I can't share those yet, if ever.
Does anyone else think it odd that so many were mentioned as FIP? I'd never even heard of it before.
Is there a sudden outbreak of this condition???
Meanwhile, I'd like to send all my heartfelt love and shared grief to each and every one of you. I feel your pain as you've felt mine. I just wish I could do more to help you, as you've helped me.
Let me add a little short story to this: when we adopted Rascal, we also adopted an adorable Lynx-point mix a few months younger. This kitten ( Button!) arrived with the most remarkable collection of marking I've ever seen. First, he has " angel wing" markings on each shoulder. Second-when he sits with his front legs together, the markings make a very distinct heart-shape on his front legs. I'm also pretty sure he's an empath, as he tries to love and comfort all of us, and especially Rascal. I found him several times wrapped completely around Rascal for comfort and ( I think) trying to keep him warm and comfy.
When I recover somewhat, I'd like to post a photo of this kitten. He truly is my Angel cat.

My hopes and prayers go with all of you wonderful and loving people! Thanks for being there!

Thank you for letting us know of that wonderful, sweet cat. Button truly sounds like an angel on earth to offer what comfort he can., too. I'm so sorry you have to go through this pain, I wouldn't wish it on anybody. It sounds like you tried all you could, I hope you take comfort in knowing he almost certainly knew you were trying to help and felt the love and devotion you had for him. The heavens have gained another sweet angel and we have all lost a beautiful sweet soul. I know a little piece of your heart went with him, and only time will help to dull the pain. Please accept my sincere condolences, you will surely be blessed for loving so much to hurt so bad. Take care...... RIP beautiful Rascal, you were greatly loved and will never be forgotten!

It's nice Rascal had Buttons watching over him.

I am very sorry you lost Rascal and that your home now feels a large gap where he has filled your lives.  Rascal is still wrapped around all of your hearts and memories, and those memories will start to give you comfort and laughter rather than pain at some point in the future.  For now take comfort from those around you who can share your pain, and those of us here who have been where you are now.  FIP takes too many of our cats still and there is so litte you can do, but your Rascal sounds like he was surrounded by love and those offering comfort and I am sure he would thank you for that if he could.

Button sounds very precious and I hope we wil have a chance to see those beautiful markings very soon.

I'm so sorry for your loss.  At least his suffering was lessened some by having you love him so much.  You gave him all the love that you could, and he knew that.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who has posted about my Rascal boy. I will miss him forever. Today I got the news that he had Lymphoma--a terrible blow, but now I know how much he suffered, and that I did what was right for my poor little boy. I think God must have sent him to me to love and be loved for the short time he was here.
For all of you who have faced this choice, I know how hard it is, and it doesn't get any easier. We all must think of what is best for them. All my love (and Rascal's) for your comments and sympathy. I feel the same for all of you. Bless you and your babies.....

For all of you, my friends and helpers, I thank you from the bottom of my soul! You may never know how much this has meant to me. For B Gregory-- the poem you posted is so beautiful and a huge comfort. Though I miss him terribly, and will likely continue to...perhaps the crying will stop someday soon, when I finally realize that I did my best for him, loved him as he deserved, and said goodbye with dignity. I wake up and feel him snuggled next to me on my bed. I know also that we will be together again, when he is well and happy.
I will end this now with a huge loving thank you to everyone who has responded, and everyone going through the same painful process. All my love and best wishes for you and your loving companions. I will add this as it was a comfort to me: as he was leaving me Rascal gazed lovingly into my eyes, as if he knew what was happening and why, and was grateful. Even a tiny purr, which I haven't heard in a long time. I know he's at peace now ( even if I'm not there yet).
Thank you all, so very much....

ohhh your "Button" story made me tear up.... bless her heart for being there for Rascal! I'm so deeply sorry for your loss as I know your pain. Our Mikki still grieves for her sister Minnie 3 months later, but it's less and less (she howls) and she is so loved and now gets our undivided attention :) so she will be fine, but yes, they do grieve just like us.

For those who asked, the cat behind Rascal is Button, his best friend and little Angel Kitty!
He took very good care of Rascal and did his best to make him as comfortable and comforted as he possibly could. And yes, he is grieving.....

Is that Minnie or Mickie? So very beautiful! I'm so sorry for your loss. Each and every one of them is different and special, and I've always felt like they are our little furry Angels here on Earth. Mikki must have been very close to her sister, though all cat families seem to grieve for each other. I sincerely hope that you are doing better as well. I'm not there yet, it sometimes takes a long time for some of us. Bless you for your kind thoughts and loving heart. Thank You so very much.....

Hi ConiKat, So very sorry on the loss of your precious boy Rascal. I and everyone on this site can understand your pain. I am still dealing with the painful loss of my Mickey. He passed back in July. I think of him constantly and miss him so very much. I know the pain can seem unbearable at times. I am truly sorry that you are going through this kind of pain. Believe me I would never wish this pain on anyone. Please take care. Remember that you did all you could for your Rascal. He was very much loved and loved you just as much. Hugs to you!!

To Loving Mickey,
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comments. It sounds as if you, yourself are still having a very hard time. It's amazing how they work their way into our hearts and souls and become a part of us. Sometimes a part that is so very hard to do without.
We live in a high mountain valley in Colorado, and it's taken far too long for my husband to believe how dangerous it was to let the cats outside. We've lost far too many and every one has left a huge hole in my heart. I sometimes think there are more parts of me with them, than is left here. We now have a very large covered run for them, which will be all they are allowed now. Too late for Sammy and Paxi my big furry boys, and it's heartbreaking too.
We had just lost two very special and beautiful cats to Coyotes in early September, and I wanted to die. Then my Rascal baby came along and helped to fill a bit of that hole. I think that may be why it was so very hard to lose him. Such a beautiful sweet little boy, and much as I love my other cats, he was truly special. It sounds like your Mickey was very special too, and I grieve with you for his loss. If only we could keep them with us forever!

Minnie is in my profile...It's been 3 months... and yes, I still shed random tears... can hardly believe Min is gone. Horrible condition called chylorthorax that took her only 3 weeks after diagnosis. Here's Mikki...

To ConiKat, Yes I am still grieving deeply for Mickey. He has been gone five months now and I miss him more than ever. He was diagnosed with colon cancer and about one month after he was gone. My heart broke on that night. I have lost other cats and miss them all. However, I can't seem to get over the loss of Mickey. He was truly special!! My profile picture is of my son with Mickey. I know it is hard to see Mickey in the picture. I need to posts some pictures of him (when I figure out how to do it). I have adopted another cat named Shadow. I will always miss Mickey but Shadow has his own special place in my heart. I am truly sorry for the loss of all your precious babies. Yes it is very hard when we lose them. They take a piece of our heart with them.I am hoping your heart starts healing soon!!
MnM, both Minnie and Mikki are beautiful cats. My first cat looked alot like your Minnie. She was a black and white tuxedo cat. She was a present from my sister when I was very young. She lived to about 12 years old. I will never forget her!! I hope Mikki is doing better in her grieving over the loss of Minnie. I hope you are copibg better as well!!

Thought I'd let you know I've posted some photos ( finally!) of my current cat family, except Button who won't sit still! This includes my two big, beautiful boys, lost to Coyotes the end of Sept. This has been a lousy year for losing my beloveds.

He is indeed a little Angel, or at least was for baby Rascal ( who was older than him, but very small for his age.) I'm not sure I'd have believed the things he did myself, if I hadn't watched him doing these things. You might expect it of say an adult, motherly cat, but a young kitten??? I think he must have an old soul, and empathy for certain. But I am so glad that he did! I know it must have been a comforting thing for Rascal, to be kept clean and groomed, warm and cozy, and loved by his little friend as well as me. Beautiful and very sweet to watch. And I will post a photo of him very soon.
Although he was in the chair with Rascal in the picture. I think he must've known how sick Rascal was well before we did.
