My two dogs love a snack with peanut butter each morning before I leave the house.  Lately our male cat has decided that he wants to join this ritual.  I would break off a small piece of beef lung and he would run off with it.  Now he sits on the counter and acts like he wants the peanut butter.  He watches the two dogs sitting on the floor licking and licking...so I put a little peanut butter on his mouth.  He licked it off.  I wasn't sure if he liked it or just had to clean it off but he keeps coming back so he must like it.  Can the peanut butter hurt him?

I've never seen peanut butter on any danger list of foods and my cats have been getting it for years.....although with all things moderation :-)

Glad I saw this thread as I've been wondering that myself lately. With the winter coming on, I've started putting out peanuts in the feeder for the jays and squirrels. Pushy is such a hog that he tries to steal the peanuts. He actually ripped into the bag of peanuts I had by the door, but I don't think he's eaten one. He just licks them. :dk:

I've never thought of peanut butter for my cats. Whisky loves olives.

Felix LOVES peanut butter!   I think he'd eat the entire jar if I let him, but he just gets a taste, and then spends ages licking his lips!

I'd go with the moderation esp as peanut butter can contain a lot of salt.  Also watch for added ingredients in the make you use and check there isn't anything else you would want to avoid.

Until it broke we had a small size jar (about 1/3 as tall as the normal ones) of peanut butter which we would give about 1/4 tsp. of peanut butter from each day. I don't think it hurts them, but do remember there's a bit of sugar in it. I think mine just liked licking treats off my finger.
