Woohoo!!!!

I remember last year I posted in the "What are you looking forward to in 2014" thread and I posted about looking forward to getting engaged. Well, turns out my boyfriend and I were not on the same page for awhile (not that we weren't both sure that we would stay together, just had some differences in our expectations about getting engaged and married) and though we had lots of good talks and made progress, I was not counting on it actually happening this year!

We skipped the ring part (not my style) so no picture of bling to show you, sorry.

It was super impromptu - it was one of those "moment of clarity" things when we were in bed talking late Friday night (Saturday morning really... I don't get home from work until 1am, so I probably got engaged at like 3am haha!). We were having a difficult discussion and worked through a big issue we had been having and at the end of it he unexpectedly proposed! WOW! Surprise ending haha! I'm actually really happy about how he asked... we aren't big into traditional stuff so I had always wondered how he would do it, and it seemed symbolic somehow - working through something by communicating difficult feelings and coming to a mutual solution is pretty much what marriage is all about!

It was nice because yesterday night was my work's holiday party, so we had already booked a hotel and planned to get dressed up - and I'm happy we had something to celebrate because the party was kinda lame haha! So the engagement made the effort of the dressing up and hotel worth it!

Anyway, I'm thrilled!!!!!!!!!!!! Yay!

Congratulations! Your view of marriage is spot on, so the "realistic engagement" is very fitting.

Congratulations! It's wonderful that you're communicating and working through major issues before getting married instead of after.

That's wonderful! I'm so happy for you both, and may you have a long, healthy, and happy life together.

Aw, thank you so much everyone.
Despite my best attempts not to plan, we ended up setting a date (May 28, 2016 - long engagement I guess!) and a place (my parents' farm). I've done a few other little things like setting up an email account for all the ads and spam to go to. With a long engagement I'll have lots of time to do things ahead. We are so happy!!!!
