I went to cut one of my cats nails today and one of the nails looks like its either growing into the skin or the skin is growing over the nail. I tried to take a picture:

You can see one side of the nail, but the other side is blocked by skin/fur. The tip of the nail seems to also be covered. There seemed to be some remnants of some blood. It didn't seem to hurt her; she let me push on it to bring the nail out to look at without flinching. She just got done taking antibiotics for something else so I'm thinking that if it had gotten infected that would have helped.

Does anyone know what this is or have any experience with it? I googled ingrown nail and it didn't look like that since its not growing back into the paw. I will probably take her to the vet this week, but I was hoping I could get some help here first. I've spent around $1000 last month on our three cats :(

It does look like an ingrown nail.. just not in the most common way.  She could have done something twisty-ish that made the nail go sideways instead of forward, and it just got caught in that position and continued to grow there.  Sorry to say, but I would have a vet look at it to separate it from the skin safely.

Yes, I would agree with Furmonster Mom, that a vet would be the best to separate the nail from the skin.  To me, it looks like the outer sheath of the nail did not fall off,  but I don't know if something like a weak salt water soaking would soften the nail.  Usually, when a cat scratches, they pull off the outer sheath, themselves,...but in this case, it does look like it is growing to the side.
