Good morning.

Today's question is; When did you first feel like you were a grown-up?

For me it wasn't until I was 19 and I went travelling on my own. A nerve racking experience, but ultimately a very good one.

That was so long ago it's hard to say. Getting my driver's license at 16 was probably the first step, but being able to vote (and consume alcohol) and not being subject to city (or parental) curfews at 18 meant full adulthood.

It was when I was standing in front of a courthouse judge saying ''I Do' with my husband to be. I was 16. I felt unsure then but my marriage has lasted 36 years now and still dragging on & on.lol

Well, I got married and had our son when I was 16. I felt pretty grown up at that point. One of the hardest things we've ever done was to raise a child when you're not much more than a child yourself. It was very difficult and I would not want to do it again. Don't get me wrong; I dearly love our son. And I dearly love Dear Richard. But to be married and be a mom at that age? No.

I suppose when I was 23 and left home and came here. No more rules or regulations but I still wasn't allowed to smoke by my mum lol. I haven't touched a ciggy for about 25 years. Horrible dirty smelly things.
The smell of old ash gives me a migraine.

id have to say when i was 18 i made the choice to move out of my parents on my own. I had a good job, paid all my bills and got myself an associate degree in business management. I have always been very independent, i guess its part of my personality.

It was when I was 32 and talking to the lawyers and judge for my divorce and them believing and ruling in my favor over the abuse I suffered.

Wow, @Winchester  @dejolane getting married at 16 sounds so young. I got married at 27 and I wasn't sure if I was really ready or not.

But we're still together ten years later, so I guess it was the right decision.

I really don't know!  I got married at 20 and my husband was in the military back then; so there were times I was on my own as far as making sure our bills were paid and the house needs were taken care of.  But i still didn't feel any different.  I suppose it was sometime after my 2nd child was born that I felt different.  So around 30?  But it's not like we were your stereotypical 20somethings either.  So I really don't know.

I really don't feel grown up even at 30. I still do a lot of the stuff I did as a child and I generally don't feel bothered by adult issues. Don't get me wrong, my husband and I do live in the real world we just choose to stay kids at heart! :)

I still don't really feel grown up! I never acted particularly childish in my teens - and I was far from any stereotypical carefree teenager since I'd been working since I was 11 and had the pets to care for, so while I was acting more grown up than others my age, I didn't really feel it all that much.

I would say the closest I've come is when I moved out last year, signed the lease to my own apartment, and signed up for a hydro bill. That sucked.
But even so, whenever we get together with my family, my mom still brings me my favourite dishes - usually a week or two's worth and I still feel very much like my parents' baby and that they dote on me (but it's via Skype mostly now), which I will totally relish while they're still around because it won't last forever, and it's such a great and warm feeling.

 The bills do stink huh?
I got married right before my last year of college.  But my first job out of college I worked for the same company as my mother.  It was awesome; I ate so well!  She was in and out of the office for her job all the time.  She's come back in and set a bagel from my favorite place down next to me some mornings.  She's bring me lunch (sometimes for the all 6 of us employees
) or coffee, something from the Amish/farmer's market - lunch or a pastry.  DH and I would end up at her house for dinner pretty regularly too.
She still brings me things sometimes; but my kids really have taken over priority there.

My Grandmother on my Dad's side made my Dad and Aunt's lunches for work until they were well into their 40s.  It was just something she did and enjoyed.

Haha, that's so sweet!

Funny enough, today we had a family gathering and we were at the cemetery to visit my grandfather's grave for his birthday. While we were waiting for our other family members, I went to zip up my coat and the zipper got stuck on a piece of material, so my mom came to my rescue, unstuck it, and zipped my coat up for me. And then gave me a bunch of food. And then my older brother gave me a hat to wear because it was windy. And then at the restaurant, the "kids" (we're all in our 20s now) sat at their own table separate from the adults, and when my favourite dish arrived at the "adult" table, my mom flagged me over to get some. Yeah, I'm not grown up yet.

Age 18 when I spent my first night in my own apartment. I didn't have a bed yet but that didn't matter the place was mine!

good for you. I'd never have managed. I used to have to borrow money from my dad a few days before payday and had to tell him why.
I was a real wimp.

I may be 70 but I've never really grown up and i suppose i never will now. Still bills get paid thanks to the bank. The apartment gets cleaned thanks to my cleaner. They litter box get scooped daily by my ex. The I one thing I do do properly is look after my furbabies.
