We have two cats who are on a mainly dry only diet.

This is a medi-Cal Dental formula they are on.

And they are on an adult formula as well

They've been eating this type of food for at least 5 years probably longer. This is what was recommended by the vet we saw. You can only buy this food from a vet at least in Canada.

They are both 8 years old cats.

Indoor only

Our one cat has horrible dental issues (hence the dental 'formula' for food) He's had 2 canines pulled.

The other cat has had horrible UTI issues and we were told the adult formula would help. Plus we give wet food every now and then with extra water to help with the fluid intake. There hasn't been any uti issues since we switched to this food.

I'm looking to purchase my food in the US now, and want to get something comparable. I'm at the end of the food, and going to buy new bags again to last us for however long, but I'd like to buy another comparable brand or something along those lines that I could then transition to.

The prices in Canada from the vet are astronomical. Even with the exchange rate it'd be worth it for me to buy food in the US. Obviously if there isn't then, I'll keep buying from the vet just trying to find something that may save on the money.

Any recommendations or comparables would be greatly appreciated.

Its costing me around $160+ for the two bags at 10kgs each bag

Royal Canin makes a recipe called Oral Sensitive which can be bought from your local pet supply store. That will be the closest to the Medi-Cal recipe. Science Diet does a good dental food. You can get it from the veterinarian (Hills t/d) or through your local pet supply store (Science Diet Oral Care). Its difficult to find a food geared toward urinary tract issues outside of the veterinarian. Nutram does a male urinary recipe and a female urinary recipe. Purina Pro Plan does a urinary tract formula, but its a big step down from what you've been feeding.

Feeding canned food on a daily basis instead of just now and again is going to be better for your UTI kitty cat especially. Maybe a little morning and night?

I think even Friskies canned, flavors like mixed grill or some of the pate flavors are much better than dry. Friskies not a great quality but it's cheap and much more affordable than Royal I believe. Just make sure they arent allergic to any of the Friskies ingredients. Should try to go almost 100 percent wet for your Uti kitty. :)
