It started with finding Jackie (Jacquelyn) stuck high up in a tree meowing at the very top of her lungs at 16 weeks old. We knew she was adventurous from day 1. After no luck finding an owner, I decided to take her into my home.

Being the lone cat, I could quickly tell she was bored. That combined with her not being fixed soon wreaked havoc on my walls, carpet, etc. I bought her oodles of toys, but she needed more.

Enter Pierce, who I adopted at the local shelter. At 12 weeks old, around 1 month younger than his newbie sister, he was a welcome addition to our little family.

I happened to pick him up on a Saturday afternoon, and vets in Ontario are typically closed Saturday at around 1PM until Monday AM, so it was a difficult period of trying to keep these curious little ones separated. After the FeLV/FIV/Vaccines/General Checkup were complete, I let them officially meet.

It was love at first sight, and since then, they have been best friends. Most say boyfriend/girlfriend type dynamic, it's just so sweet.

At last, Jackie was fulfilled. I could see her happiness take off from that point, and once spayed, she was in her element.

Pierce didn't come without his troubles, though. I was told by the shelter that he was a high risk adoption because he really wasn't able to eat much. The only food that didn't upset his tummy was gastro, and that was after being dewormed several times "just in case". She hinted towards him having FeLV - which he didn't - but it was a tense few days. Post adoption, he also started to get skin eruptions that I would later learn were called Eosiniphilic Granulomas ---took me about 3 weeks to master the pronunciation. Trying to avoid steroids, the vet put him on a hypoallergenic diet by Royal Canin...which did NOT agree with his tummy issues. He was voiding food faster than I could get it into him, and I was really worried.

The vet said the prognosis was not good if he could not take hypo allergenic food.

HAH! Sounds like a challenge to me, Mr. Vet...

As a last stich effort and after a lot of reading, I put them both on a freeze dried raw diet effective immediately (Stella and Chewy Duck Duck Goose). From that moment forward, Pierce has come leaps and bounds. Never again did he have diarrhea, and his skin lesions cleared up within a few weeks.

Okay, that was long winded....but that's our story thus far. Although I tend to be an anxious pet owner, I like that I can join a forum where others are equally as neurotic...yet in my opinion, passionate...about their pet's health :)

Cheers everyone!

Jess, Jackie and Pierce :rbheart:

Welcome to The Cat Site.

They really do look like they're in love, don't they?

I'm glad you've managed to get Pierce's health problems under control, he looks very healthy on his new diet.
