Do all long haired kitties do this?

My sweet goofy isabel is perfect in every way ....

until she decides to groom herself!

                                                                                                             which is almost constantly ....

I'm not sure if this is just a long haired kitty thing but every time Izzie tries to groom herself she is left with a wet mess. Her fur ends up sloppy wet and takes a bit to dry out and get fluffy again.

She has gorgeous cotton candy soft fur that I love so much, but I find I have to help her groom herself more often than it seems should be needed. I love her to bits regardless, and I don't think anything could keep me from snuggling her, but honestly, it does feel a little gross when she decides to groom herself, say laying on my chest and then flop in my face right after ...

I've never owned a long haired cat before, so I guess I'm wondering if this is normal, not normal but nothing to worry about medically, or I should be concerned?

It doesn't seem to be quite as bad when our older girl Lola grooms her ...

What happens when Isabel grooms Lola?

No, this doesn't happen with all long hairs, but I doubt that it's anything to worry about.

Izzie doesn't really groom Lola. She much prefers being spoiled herself.

I've tried to watch her to see if she ever drools excessively and the only time I can tell that she does is when she's in a deep sleep.

She relaxes much more than either of our other cats, to the point of just going limp in your arms often, and limp enough that you have to support her or it seems like she's going to break her spine bending backwards if you do not support her well.

Other than that though, she's a rambunctious frisky big goofball of a kitten. She jumps higher than any cat I've ever seen and plays harder as well.

I'm just mentioning that because I'm sure the way she relaxes may have sounded like she is lethargic, which she is definitely not

I've got 8 longhaired maine coons ;) 4 boys and 4 girls.

Three of the boys do this when they wash themselves, none of the others do. So I guess it is normal for some kitties. :D

I found that these three boys do seem to spend much more time washing than the others though :lol3:

Thank you GemsGem!

I'm so happy to hear its normal! I've worried a bit about it and would much rather just deal with the ick factor than to think something was wrong with my Angel Baby! <3

From your description she sounds incredibly healthy. In the absence of any real problems, I wouldn't worry about it. Start keeping a towel next to your chair and bed, and you can reduce the ick factor.

Just enjoy her.

My Tucker does this too! I keep telling him it's not attractive.especially when he decides to visit the littee box right after and get clumps stuck everywhere... which leads to more grooming...

He's my first longhair, so it's good to know this is normal. Your Izzie looks absolutely precious. I love the belly pic.

My kitten always smells a bit funny because when her mother licks her, her fur ends up being a bit wet. Ironically, I have to give her baths every now and then because of this.

She has medium-length hair, like a Nebulung, but  she is a black tortie. Sorry the pic is not very good but here she is:

Thank you Margret! The towel sounds like a good idea, and I will definitely enjoy her! She has my heart I swear!

Thanks for all of the wonderful comments! It's good to know I'm not alone in this lol.

@ChloeJune  you're kitten is ADORABLE! And, yes, Izzie gets more bath time than the other two too. Poor girl ...

I wouldn't worry about it! :) I have 2 Siberian Cats and one is always kind of wet too, while the other isn't. We had a litter a while ago and sometimes I would grab a kitten and he/she would be like a completely wet ball and I wondered how that happened. Then I saw one of my 2 cats licking the kittens and I figured it was because of her. It happens :D

She is beautiful ^^

And I doubt there's anything you can do about it, just let her be. She'll dry up soon enough. If people comment about it, just say it's normal for her to groom herself like that, it's similar to us taking a shower. We are wet after taking a shower too. Let her be herself and love her for it, don't care about what other people say ;)
