With Turkey Day being a short 2 days away, I was wondering what you guys have on your menu? We always have the same thing, prepared the same way. Blah! I would love to kick it up a bit, but hubby is a bit of a traditionalist and doesn't like to change.

We have:

Roasted Turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes (nothing special about them, just plain jane mashed potatoes)
Gravy
Corn (nothing special about the corn, either...)
Asparagus
Yams with brown sugar and marshmallows
Rolls
Pumpkin Pie for hubby (I'm skipping dessert this year - we never eat it that day anyway!)

cheese ball
crackers

spiral sliced honey glazed ham
turkey breast, cooked in the rotisserie
traditional dressing
oyster dressing
mashed potatoes
green bean casserole
cranberry sauce
yeast rolls

pecan pumpkin butter pecan pie
pecan pumpkin butter pumpkin pie
vanilla ice cream

and there is only going to be 5 of us!

Remove the corn and asparagus and replace those with green bean casserole. My sister is also doing cake rather than pie this year. Add some appetizers (relish tray, chips/dips, shrimp cocktail) and you have our menu down pat.

Actually, I'm not absolutely certain of the entire menu. My sister is buying the food and I only get to cook what she buys.

Here is our menu:

Turkey with Stuffing
Mashed Potatos and gravy
Green Bean Casserole
Sweet Potato Casserole made with brown suger and pecans
Homemade Rolls
Cranberries
Mixed green salad with stawberries and poppyseed dressing
Pumpkin pie
Blueberry pie (made from wild Upper Peninsula blueberries picked last summer by us and frozen)

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love the way the house smells and getting together. This year is is just our family (me, sister, brother-in-law and my dad) plus my brother-in-law's mother. It will be very relaxed. We usually invite anyone who does not have somewhere to go from our church, but I guess everyone had plans.

I just loved looking at everyone's menus. I love Thanksgiving, hubby just likes my food. This year it is just us, so I'm trying to scale the food portions down. And after the horrendous month we've had, we sorely need some serious comfort food and together time with each other and our cats.

This year:

Roast turkey
Stuffing
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy
Glazed Carrots
Corn
Whole Cranberry Sauce
Pumpkin Pie ala mode
Custard Pie (new item)

Decided to take out sweet potatoes and rolls this year.

*Creamed Potatoes (that is what we call mashed potatoes in NC where I am from
)

*Egg Gravy (turkey gravy with boiled eggs in it, a family recipe, yummy!)

*Fresh Collards-YUM!!!

*Carrots, Asparagus, Green Bean Casserole, pearl onions for my step Dad, he loves those things

*Cheese Ball

*Ice Cream for dessert, we are not big on pie

This year I am cooking just for me and Steven, then my parents will be here on Friday morning to help eat all of the left-overs all weekend

Happy Turkey Day Everyone!

PS>>>HISSY, I could not find a free range turkey at my store

Ours is pretty basic:

Turkey
Mashed potatoes with gravy
Breaded cauliflower - my favorite!

Meat stuffing
Bread stuffing
Corn or string beans, I'm not sure which
Sweet Potatoes
Cranberry sauce

Dessert always changes, but this year I think we're having:

A vanilla pudding pie
A vanilla cake
Ice cream
Irish Cream Cheese Cake (I get to bake that.
)

I think that's it.
