This year will be Toby's first Christmas. He has just turned 5 months old. He's never seen a Christmas tree before, so of course he was overwhelmed when I put it up Friday night. From first sight his intentions were to destroy it.

Every ornament and decoration was getting ragged by the minute. I tried my best to deter him from the tree, but failed. I woke up Saturday night to one bauble remaining. Everything else was all over the floor including the branches. I couldn't help to feel angry but at the same time, I couldn't help from laughing.. I googled some advice on how to keep him away. I tried using tin-foil, orange peel, citrus scent, spraying him with water, yet still he insisted on climbing the tree and ragging everything off. He bit through the wire on the Christmas lights, luckily they were switched off at the time.

So now the Christmas tree is back in the cupboard. I put up with it for 3 days, but each night I was going to bed with the sound of the tree shaking and Toby chasing the baubles around on the floor. I guess I will have to wait until next year lol!!

Anybody else have a kitten/cat who is obsessed with them?!

Here's the evidence!

(The tree once looked very nice, bright and colourful!)

He's loving it!

Oh no! Lol. The most KeeBae (Journey) has done is knock of everything on the bottom two branches. He has only done it once so far.

LMAO!   How adorable!  I would have left it up for his enjoyment.

There is a member here who has posted pictures in the past of what her tree started out looking like, and weekly progress of what it gradually became! It was too funny!

Just use plastic ornaments instead of breakable ones.

I had this problem for years. I fastened the tree to the curtain rails, put a metal fireguard around it, used only unbreakable ornaments, no mains lights, I tried everything. Now I use an artificial tree that most of the cats leave alone and that is easily put together again if they do damage it, , battery lights and plastic or wooden ornaments. If I am entertaining family over Christmas then I put a real tree in the hall where it can be seen through the internal glass doors, and keep the doors shut. This year I have three young cats who have never seen a tree before, so we may be in for some fun and games!

Oh sweet! He's having so much fun with that.

I've got a kitten called Toby too, we call him Little Toby Terror as he's into everything all the time.

I've never even tried putting a Christmas tree up, having seen what my lot do to cardboard boxes, house plants and their own cat tree I can imagine what short work they'd make of a Christmas tree.

Lol, it must come with the name Toby! :p

I bought him a new cat tree, which has replaced the Christmas tree, lol. So Toby wins this year! :p

He also lost his first milk tooth yesterday, which I found on the carpet, and is now being kept in a little box in my room ^.^

His other tooth is loose and will probably fall out soon. I hope I manage to find it!

He's teething a lot so I guess the Christmas tree was just too tempting to stay away from, hence why he was biting the branches and ornaments all the time. Luckily he still has lots of toys to keep him busy and to teethe on!

LOL that is really funny (though poor tree!)

We are blessed that our baby blue doesn't really mess with the tree. An occasional bat at the bottom baubles, or staring at her reflection....... other than that- not much.

As with toddlers, remember, this too will pass. He IS overwhelmed, mommy put this wonderful toy up just for him! I have had problems with every kitten I have owned with Christmas trees, it is like catnip. Maybe not next year, but there WILL come a time when he will be able to control himself. My seniors pay absolutely no attention to the tree now, except Casper who WILL pull a bulb down to be put outside, of course he will knock things off the table to the ground too, but we love them despite their faults! Your pictures are wonderful, just hang one of them on the wall and call it good!

Thanks guys! :) Yes I have lots of pictures from him from the day I got him at 8 weeks old.

Lol when I boxed it back up I contemplated throwing it away because it looked awful!! And I only bought it a few weeks ago!

I love the fact that he played with it constantly and I did enjoy watching him enjoy himself! However, I live in a flat and I felt bad for the guys underneath if they were to be kept awake during the night by the cat running around crazy with the baubles.
