Hi! I just found this site and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Cheryl and I have two kitties. (Actually, they have me!) Anyway, Simon is a rescue from under a friend's washing machine. He's 3. Max is a long haired Russian Blue that my husband got from the humane society. He's 2. They are my babies and are terribly spoiled and a bit fat. (I'm going to try to work on the fat part.)

Here's a question. I give them a total of 3/4 of a cup of food per day. 1/2 cup in the morning and 1/4 at night. That's total not each. I can't quite figure out how they can be as big as they are on such little food. Simon is 13lbs. and Max is 14 lbs.! I know I need to cut the amount by I swear I feel like I'll be starving them!

Anyway, I promise to post a picture once I figure out how to shrink one!

Welcome to the site!

Since your main question is one of Health and Nutrition, I'll move this to that forum where our experts can help you.

Just like with people, diet and exercize are important to help your kitties lose weight. Make some extra time in your day to play interactively with them - get them running and chasing!

Welcome to the site! If your still having problems posting pictures, you can send them to me (see my profile for my email) and I'll post them for you.

That doesn't sound like much food for two cats, but I would go to your vet's to determine a weight loss plan if necessary. Also, do you have enough interactive toys for exercise? I know my cat's favourite toy is the laser and she runs after the red dot forever! You may want to spend some more time having play sessions with them.

Also, you can introduce wet food into their diet, which is less calorie dense than the dry food. But before doing this, make sure that your vet knows your plans so their weight can be monitored.

Are they outdoor cats? If so they might be supplementing their diet with birds, mice, etc.

Hi cla517!

Just curious, but is that all they eat? Do they get snacks or tidbits from you? Sometimes, the in between treats may be the real cause of the extra weight!

Anyway, just check first with your vet to make sure they are ACTUALLY overweight.
