oh Canada~
Was browsing the WalMart.ca website when I stumbled upon this food, apparently made in Canada and a quick Google brought up the ingredients list:

http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/actr1um-holistic-adult-cat-food/1455222100276

No corn, wheat, animal byproducts, colours, fillers, or preservatives.

Ingredients: Chicken, chicken meal, pearled barley, oats, herring meal, dicalcium phosphate, olive oil, tomato pomace, ground whole , dried alfalfa, apples, bananas, blueberries, broccoli, cranberries, dried kelp, pears, spinach, sweet potatoes, capsicum, cinnamon, chamomile, paprika, turmeric, calcium carbonate, vitamin E supplement, choline chloride, ferrous sulphate, zinc oxide, copper sulphate, vitamin B12 supplement, niacin, sodium selenite, calcium pantothenate, manganous oxide, vitamin A acetate, riboflavin, calcium iodate, folic acid, thiamine mononitrate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, vitamin D3 supplement, rosemary extract.

Note – may contain trace amounts of peanuts.

I think it used to contain corn gluten meal, so I'm having trouble finding a guaranteed analysis to accompany the above ingredients. It looks like it's only available in Canada so unsurprisingly, it's more or less unheard of. I don't have any plans to switch from my food, especially since the GA info I've found has pretty low protein and it seemed a bit grainy, just curious.

Any Canucks seen or tried their food?

I've seen it. Didn't know it was made in Canada. That's pretty cool. But I don't trust Walmart brand food for myself so I definitely don't trust it for a cat. This may just be me being a head case though because the ingredient list is good.

Bumping up this older thread because I've been wondering about this brand myself.

I've fed a couple cans of the wet food to my kittens and they seemed to really like it.  No corn, wheat or by-products.  It does have rice though but not too bad.  It's about $1.00 for 3oz so not super cheap but not premium prices either.  Seems to be a good alternative to help with the food budget.  The dry food didn't seem impressive enough to be worth the price though.

I can't find info about the canned food online though.  It has a long list of ingredients -- lots of vitamins and minerals and that sort of thing so I don't want to type it out manually either.

Chicken, water sufficient for processing; turkey; dried egg product; brown rice; apples; carrots; tuna; modified tapioca starch; natural flavours; and so on and so forth.....  It does have carrageenan in it but it's way down the list at least.

I've actually been using this product for about a year. I have 4 cats ranging from 5 months to 10 years, they all seem to really like it. They all really like the wet food as well. I like that it has not wheat or corn in it.

For anyone doesn't know, Walmart pet foods are made by Purina, I know that cause I'm a truck driver , and the company I used to work for had the Walmart contract in Canada. Anyway I used to pick up trailer loads at the plant in Innifail, AB

My kittens really like the turkey flavour but the others didn't go over so well.  Well, Pepper isn't as picky as Pickles so he will eat MOST of the other flavours but some is always left behind.  I didn't realize the Walmart brands were made by Purina.  I don't really care that much but it does kind of annoy me that Purina seems to own everything.  Where's the competition in the marketplace?

I also tried Walmart's other canned food brand -- Pure Balance.  Similar list of ingredient -- maybe slightly better (?) but both kittens did not care for any of the flavours.

Here is the guaranteed analysis right off the bag.

As far as the wet food is concerned there are two types, one that appears like traditional looking cat food, like a sausage with no casing in a can...lol which my cats don't seem to like very much, I mean they'll eat it, but only if there's nothing better :-) And the other is more "stew" looking, you can actually see the pieces of meat & vegetable in them, that, any of the three flavours, they prefer. Since I buy it buy the 12 pack I don't really know if they have a favourite, they just get the next in the box.

I've been feeding this to my cats for years, but in the last year I've noticed one of them throwing up after eating it. Don't know if there is a formula change, but going to try switching out the food to something else. Any recommendations for food that's good for both a high energy cat and a lazy fatty? Gentle on the stomach with lots fo natural goodies, grain-free and all that jazz.

I believe that Actr1um Pet Foods are made by Elmira Pet Foods in Elmira, Ontario.  You can check it out.  I have sent emails to them and received info. back.  Have used Actr1um for my dog before and am now planning to use it for my cat also as Pet Valu has taken over local stores and the food I have been using went up $5 on a 3 pound bag.  My dog has always been healthy and fur has been great,  I do not use Purina because they have apparently been known to display uncaring attitudes towards animals/pets.

Hello CanuckCatLady,

I too have been feeding my 4 yr old Siamese this cat food the one with oral care. Over the last yr he too has been throwing up the kiblets and eating them. Did you ever get a response back and if so what did you change the food to?  Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

I use this product for my cat. He was overweight, a senior, so I bought the senior Actrium 1. He lost weight and his fur is shinier and healthier. I'm sticking with it. But I didn't realize it was made in Canada. Bonus.
