My cat has recently, within the last week or so, began having this weird crust on the outer corners of both eyes as well as her ears. I have had many cats and never seen anything like this. She is a little over a year old and this is the first we have seen this.

I'm just curious if it is anything serious that I should be concerned about or if anyone knows where this came from... she doesn't seem to have any discomfit when I try to wipe it away (other than the restraint), it doesn't seem to bother her and i don't ever see her cleaning it. She does go outside often and I live in a heavily wooded area.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I was thinking an allergic reaction to something she contacted but why would that be on both ears and eyes. Get close to her ears and sniff. If there is a bad smell it could be mange. The only thing is you say she doesn't scratch at it which if it were mange would definitely bother her.

Look as closely as you can in her ears and under her eyelids to see if there is something going on. Also keep a close eye on her - maybe keep her indoors until this resolves.

The strange thing it's on both eyes and both ears. It could be contact dermatitis cause cats rub those areas against things. I don't think it's mites or a parasite cause that would definitely cause discomfort. If it were some kind of virus the inside corner of the eyes would be more likely to crust. So I think she rubbed against something that made this flare is my guess.

Her left eye was gooey and she only had it opened half way this morning so I've called the vet, hopefully they will have some definite answers.. Thank you!

Yes, hopefully they should be able to get to the bottom of it.

Please post an update as I am interested in finding out what that is. Also could be useful for someone else down the road.

Good luck.
