Hi again.

Currently I'm feeding my 2 cats 2 3 Oz cans each of wet food per day (one can in the morning and once at night). And in between they get a half cup of dry food to nibble on.

Times are tough for this college student, even more so with Christmas coming. Petsmart is having a really good sale right now and I picred up a bag of nutro max cat yesterday and they hate it.

I know Iams isn't the best and there are issues with their treatment of animals but I might not have a choice with my budget right now :(

I could splurge for Authority but it's double the price right now and I'm not sure they'll eat it...

So, iams? Is it really that bad a food? They were eating a grocery store brand before (Presidents Choice nutrition first)

Dry cat foods in general have too much carbs and dehydrating for cats and from what I've read they can cause kidney problems and diabetes. I fed Iams dry for my cats for years and both started having bowel issues when they hit middle age. Cats can do ok with inferior food when they are younger just like us but in a long run, it may cost you more vet bills. One emergency visit can cost $1,000. Do you have access to Costco? I saw Fancy Feast canned food there for good price.

When I first got Ruby a year ago, I continued feeding her a mix of IAMS canned and dry, as that is what the SPCA had been feeding the cats.   It was a good price and I found sales often.

Unfortunately, Ruby was always vomiting and having loose stools while eating the IAMS.   I ended up switching her to the more costly veterinary food and her digestive issues went away.

I think on this forum, the popular opinion is that *any* canned food is better than dry kibble.

They actually are on wet mostly, as stated in my post. For black Friday my shopping consisted of 50 cans of fancy feast lol.

The dry food is just to nibble between meals, it's not the main part of their diet.

I actually like Iams Original. My cats had the smallest, least stinky poops on it with no signs of issues. (Beautiful coats, clear eyes, no vomiting, ect) *shrugs* But I rotate food anyways so I guess it really doesn't matter unless that particular bag has a problem. (Which could happen with any brand) It's not like you can't switch at a later date and there are FAR worse foods you could feed so IMO, I say go for it if it's within your budget atm.
