Hi.

My kitten is 5 months, coming up 6. She's puked up 3 times before (over the past couple of weeks). Earlier today she has gagged and wretched in front of me 4 times. She has puked out a slight bit of liquid and nothing solid, I guess that's because she hasn't eaten over night.

Why is this happening ? What can I do to help her?

I have noticed she has not touched her food since last night but has been drinking water.

She's an indoor kitten and has not had contact with anything harmful that she can ingest.

Yesterday she slept all day and played a maximum of 10 minutes with me before going to bed. This is very unlike her, as usually she has me on my toes, chasing after her!

Please help as I am very worried about my little girl. I am new at being a pet owner and I am worried I am doing it wrong. :-(

Welcome to The Cat Site and I'm sorry it's under these conditions.
Honestly, I think your cat needs to be seen by a vet--today if she still will not eat or seems more lethargic. The puking/not eating is alarming, especially in a kitten. Has she pooped recently and what did it look like?
In my mind it's a little strange that she'll drink water but won't eat. I'm not sure what that means; if she didn't do either, I suspect nausea.
Meanwhile try to get her to eat something. Baby food, the kind that ONLY has meat and broth (no corn starch, spices), is irresistible to most cats.

Hi

Thank you for your help. Later in yesterday and today she has thrown up yarn. I guess this was the initial cause to her wretching. She is still not eating and is drinking very little water. She has again slept all day. I'm heavily pregnant (due tomorrow) and live alone and have no one who can take her to the vet. I really don't knkw what to do?

Will anyone be taking care of the kitty while you are delivering your own baby?

I'm sorry, I understand you are in a difficult position, but yarn is not a good sign.  Hopefully, kitty has gotten rid of it all, but the likelihood is that it's bunched up in her system and causing a blockage.  Sometimes these things will pass through, but sometimes not.  She really should be taken to a vet for x-rays.  The longer you wait, without her getting any kind of nutrition in her system, the worse it will get.

Can you or your friend at least drop her off at vet?

Hi

Yes I've arranged for a friend to look after her when I'm delivering baby. In the meantime, I have arranged for someone to take her vet but they've asked to wait till tomorrow. My kitty has rejected all her favourite treats and goods, I haven't even heard her meow today!

Quick update: she drank water, which I fed her with a straw and then she drank some more of her own accord. I also fed her some nutri-booster treats from Healthy Bites (which she was refusing to eat earlier, along with everything else!)
She's played around for an hour so and since it's 3:33 am now we've both claimed in to bed.
I will continue to monitor her, please pray she recovers fast and before my baby comes along.

Thank you to all who have helped.

She's at the PDSA. They will x ray her and then update me. They've sent me home as I've entered first stage of labour. My heart is so broken ??? :-(

My happy place.
I've been following your story and just wanted to say that I hope everything goes well for you and your cat. She is in the best place now to get the treatment she needs. Vibes that she makes a quick recovery. :vibes:

I agree. She's in the best place for her right now. Hoping that all goes well with you, your little one, and the little one on its way.

Congratulations on your new baby.  The yarn is nothing to mess with.  Any type of string can bunch up in their intestines and ultimately strangle them.    I wish more people were aware of the dangers of yarn and string when it comes to cats.  They will be playing with it and swallow it before you know it.   And it's usually not visible on the x-ray.  Please keep us posted.

Thank you so much everyone for your support and concern.

They have kept her overnight and have concluded that she is constipated.

They said I am to call them in the morning.. its going to be a long long night without her. :-(

It's funny how such a small thing can have such a big effect on you
