I always hang some on the bottom branches for Matt, too. Only silver balls, and only plastic ones. I often have to pick some up, but since I started to bend the branch tip over the string on the ball, fewer fall of.

We've had the tree up and lit since Saturday. Yesterday we decorated it all except the ribbons which I will do at some point today.
This morning I had to get a playyard baby enclosure to put around the tree.
Not so pretty but keeps tiny human off the tree.

At least I don't have to worry about Christmas trees
just all the candles my boys like to light them. Themselves.

I bought one of those specifically for the tree when my DD was a baby.  I decided to skip it this year; since gates mean nothing to my 2 year old.

that was unintelligible. The candles are during Hanukkah and the boys are my grandsons. The cats have nothing to do with the candles. We blow them out. Is that more understandable?

I was nervous about setting up a 6 foot tree (I've always had small 2 footer ones with beads at my old apartment).

Since I have the room, I decided to get a cheap tree (but nice looking, $60 at Target), and plastic ornaments from the Dollar Store. I figured if the cats destroyed them, I would not be out of too much money.

Tree went up. Cats sniffed, and pretty much ignored the tree. Occasionally Cassie would bat at the hanging pinecones. They even ignored my train that went around the tree too, lol.

Yes.   I did wonder what your cats were doing that could light candles!
    Grandsons much more understandable.

I don't do candles in this house anymore since Mouse managed to jump up and land on a pointy (but unlit) one, and his failing to learn that lit tealight singe his whiskers.....

I brought the box in from the car tonight with my new 2' little tree in it.  Plan to clean the apartment on Sunday when I get in from volunteer work and then get the tree out of tis box to see where it will look nice.   Then see if Mouse will try to eat it or knock it over, or both....

We usually don't decorate for Christmas but this year hubby is in a Christmasy mood and wants a tree.  Our cats are five years old now and I don't think they've ever seen a Christmas tree!  We're getting it today and decorating tomorrow.  This could be interesting....

Ours is up, and aside from intense staring at herself in the lower ornaments, and an occasional batting, nothing has happened. Xena could care less it exists. (it is 6.5 feet by the way, got it on sale last year for $15

....
I wonder if she's plotting.
Has she seen the Simon's Cat video?

I can't bear Simon's cat.
@Stewball    I don't think I know anyone else who doesn't like Simon's Cat!    Gosh,  first time I saw one of the cartoon books I HAD to get it, and then found the You Tube videos and love to look at them when I'm feeling a  bit down.  Can't help laughing at some of them - Fly Guy is my favourite but the tree one and some of the snow ones come a close second.

Mind you, I do love kitty cartoons and have Calvin and Hobbs books too.

I'm a bore. I don't like silly pictures of cats. Sorry MServant.

Well, we got the tree.  But we're going to be gone for a couple of days next week so we're waiting on the decorating until we get back--leaving bored and curious kitties alone with a decorated tree didn't seem like a very good plan.

I have never heard of Simon's cat until right now. I had thought you were referring to Pusheen (who my DD and I love) http://www.pusheen.com/

I think I found out about Simon's cat here on TCS, too.  Really funny.

I hate to say it @betsygee  but I think Ozzy might be looking up at that top branch up there and figures he could be a star.
Looks like kitty has a plan and it isn't one where he stays at ground level....  Very brave to put that tree out and then leave it for the kitties to scale, swing about on and generally trash even without decorations going by the way Ozzy's eyeing it up.
It is one big, fine tree you have (for now).
