I just had one of my former fosters returned to me today after he had some pee issues in his adoptive home where he lived for two years since he was a kitten. I don't know what to make of the behavior and I want to get to the bottom of the cause to be able to fix it. The adopters are convinced that he peed out of jealousy and that it was planned out on his part (I think this is ridiculous). They took him to the vet and say that the vet determined that it was behavioral despite the fact that they did no tests at all (the vet wanted to do tests but the adopters apparently didn't). So I don't really know if this is medical or not but I wanted to get the opinion of you guys about whether the pattern of his peeing issue could be consistent with a medical problem.

Apparently he's been peeing on soft, absorbent surfaces like the bed, clothes and rugs. It only happens occasionally for no apparent reason. Sometimes there are weeks between incidents and sometimes months. Once he went six months without an incident. I have dealt with UTI before and that cat was peeing outside the box often and it came out of nowhere. I would think if that's this kitty's issue he would be peeing outside the box more. I have never dealt with crystals and other medical issues that may lead to "inappropriate peeing", though. If he did have crystals would it be likely to cause him to pee in the house only every few weeks or every few months? Any thoughts on this?

I am of course going to take him to the vet anyway but I wanted to get some input here too.

Ah, the poor guy--returned after two years?!

When our cat had crystals he suddenly but then persistently started peeing inappropriately--in his case, the sinks and bathtub.  There certainly weren't weeks or months between incidents.

Have you been able to get him to the vet yet?
