My moms cat is one that pulls her fur out ..Shes semi long haired cat and is constantly fur pulling. 5 weeks ago she was bleeding form her nose and mouth inside cat no signs of injury. Bleeding quite bad. Mom rushed the cat to the vets. They found a very small cut on the roof of her mouth teeny but that's were all the bleeding was coming from. They had no idea at the time what caused the small cut. It healed and the bleeding stopped. The vet gave the  mom prendisone pills to try and help with the hair pulling. But mom which I didn't know could not get her cat to take the pills. so she just gave up Moms 75...

Today when she got up her cat was again bleeding quite badly from her nose and mouth. Off the the vets. this time I went and we saw another vet in the practice. The vet checked the cat out very  from top to bottom and ran blood work. He said that the cat is excessively pulling out her fur so much that it caused her to have like a paper cut on the roof of her mouth!! Showed us the small cut. .  He gave the cat a steroid shot this time. and flea treated again even though not signs of fleas just to make sure its not a allergy from flea bites.. The blood work showed  the cat is slightly anemic due to the bleeding.

Hopefully the steroid Will help but if not. what on earth causes a cat to pull fur out like this and suggestions????

The most common causes of this behavior are stress/anxiety and allergies. I suspect your vet is thinking allergy since the cat was given a steroid.

My mother had a cat that used to do the same thing. She never made her mouth bleed, but she often had scabs on her back where she had pulled out her fur and licked herself raw. My parents took her to several different vets, had loads of tests to rule out allergies and were really careful to keep her up to date on her flea treatment.

None of this made any difference, the vet finally decided it must be due to stress. If nothing else works maybe your Mum could try some Feliway or a calming collar.

Not sure if there is any connection (Probably not) but my Mum's cat eventually developed diabetes. I think this was more likely to have been caused by the cat being over weight. She used to comfort-eat if left alone for too long.
