I adopted a 2 year old cat 8 weeks ago, very sweet and gentle. I was petting her, then stopped, she reached over and very gentle put her teeth on my hand i didn't feel a thing and if i didn't see her do it i never would have noticed. So i started petting her again and she was fine, then i stopped moved my hand and she reached over and did this gentle bite to my hand again. I've heard of love bites are they really about affection? If not how do you stop it? I haven't been able to find anything from a feline behaviourist or vet. that verifies this behaviour as being about affection. Thanks And yes i foster but the little ones i care for are wee orphans and i don't keep them, this one is mine LOL!!!! Thanks a bunch :)

Yes it is affection. Usually they will follow up the nipping with a few licks of the hand.

Thanks, i was worried it was a negative thing.
Here's my beautiful girl Charlotte. She a 2 year old DMH i fostered her and her 3 nursing kittens for 3 months, after she was spayed and had gone up for adoption she was placed in a pet store that adopts out shelter cats. I went to the store to see her ;) she was up on a tall cat tree with lots of cat trees and pet beds all around her, so i couldn't reach her, i called her name, she stopped grooming herself looked and me, climbed down from her climber and walked over to my open arms. I've had her for about 2 months. She is my furbaby. He's a special needs cat as she has chronic ear problems, and i've been told that there's a good chance she will lose her hearing in one of her ears.
