Hi guys my Napoleon just came home from surgery. He seems to be great, the vet told me just to watch out for any discharge and not to let him lick the wound.

He sometimes want to lick it but I stopped him, should I just go get one of those collars? Also the vet said not to let him jump but how can I prevent that? He jumped twice on the couch. I am very frustrated because I don't want him to get hurt but how do I help him?

Please any advice would be great.

There's different opinions on how to recoup a cat post spay/neuter. We (the rescue) opt to take the cautious route and crate everyone in XL dog crates. Boys are crated for 5 days, girls for 10.

As for the licking...
I personally haven't had problems with boys getting infections post-neuter and I haven't had to use an e-collar on anyone. But, it you notice Napoleon licking a lot or obsessively, then you would certainly want to get an e-collar.

I also want to note that some swelling is normal for neuters for up to 48 hrs post-op.

So should I go buy a crate? I don't own one.

He is sleeping right now. He wasn't licking obsessibly he was cleaning his whole body and of course down there too.

that looks about the same as Midnight's swelling post-neuter. He was also stubborn and climbed my daughter's bunk-bed ladder....e-cone and all! We had to put plywood in front of it to top him....

I had him into the vet and they said that his wound was good, and the swelling would come down in a day or two :)

You could try taking away any climbing toys, or put him into a room to recover- one with low furniature.

Yes we got him a cone too but he didn't like it. He was running all over the house bumping everywhere with the collar on so I took it off.

I have to say cats are very ballsey lol well u know what I mean lol... Even with discomfort they still want to be brats.

I just hope nothing bad happens, my two cats have their own room so I tried to put him there but he cries and cries, he is use to be all over the house so keeping him in one room doesn't really work. I have noticed he wants to play for a little bit then goes back to sleep.... Is that normal? He also used the box already like 3 times and has been eating and drinking water. He also is more needy of me and wants me to hold him a lot.

I got my oy neutered last week and he was exactly the same. He seemed less put out by the vet visit than he was by me refusing to play with him for a few days. He also kept getting on op of tue fridge and attempting to jump into the shower while it was in use. And soooo much licking. I was worried sick but nothing bad seems to have come of his antics.
