Cheech had 2 pre-molars, and a canine tooth extracted last week. First couple of days was fine, he ate like normal. 7 days after the extractions, Cheech is acting like he has something stuck in his teeth, even pawing at his mouth. Sometimes has his mouth open. 2 of the pre-molars got stitched up, but his canine tooth didn't. I looked at the area where his canine was, the hole is red but the gum outside of the hole looks inflamed a bit. They had me give him what they call "kitty tylenol" for 3 days for pain. They had me give him what they call "kitty tylenol" for 3 days for pain. After those 3 days, the pawing/acting like he's got something stuck in his mouth started. I called the vet about this, they said it could be the stitches may be pulling and their not used to the gaps in their mouth. The stitches are the desolving kind I called the vet about this, they said it could be the stitches may be pulling and he's not used to the gaps in his mouth.  Is this common for cats to react like this when they have stitches?

Cheech still shakes his head, tilts head to the left and gets a little wobbly but isn't falling over anymore. The vet cleaned his right ear when he was under, and now, his right ear is sensitive to the touch. I posted earlier on Cheech's original visit was for ginguvitis, they flushed his ears out with Epiklean, and got vertigo from it. He has had ear problems ever since since Oct.3. I am worried that I may have to take Cheech to a specialist for his ear problems. They stick q-tips in his ears to clean out the brown stuff. Should they be using q-tips? wouldn't q-tips just push stuff further down, and maybe causing pressure to his eardrums? and this maybe his unbalance issues?

Can someone give me any advice?

Is Cheech on an antibiotic, or did they give him an antibiotic shot when he had those teeth removed?   He probably should be on one or the other.  It could very well be the stitches that are bothering him,, but it could also be something else, especially if you think it might be a little inflamed.

As to the ear business, I don't know what to tell you.  Our Vet has always used just gauze or cotton, but cats' ear canals are different from ours, so I'm not sure if using Q-tips would push the wax further in or not.  I guess it depends on how large their canals are, etc.  I would certainly hope the Vet knows what they are doing

I'm surprised the vet didn't ask you to run him in so they could do a quick recheck. I've seen quite a few animals (mostly dogs) get particles of food stuck in the holes and need it flushed out. If he keeps pawing at his mouth I would just run him out to the vet and have them take a look. I'm not to sure about the ear problem, most vets use qtips but also use otoscopes so any packed down wax can be seen. I hope they didn't injure his eardrum. The eardrum is the main reason vets tell clients not to use qtips at home because it's very easy to go to deep and injure it.

Thank you, I did bring him in and yes Cheech got some food stuck in the the hole where one of his canine tooth was extracted.  They said everything was fine. His stitches were still healing but he was doing fine. His vertigo is much better now, still gets slightly off balanced. Not like he used be, just about falling over, or falling over. When I took him in, I instructed them to not do anything to his ears, to just check his teeth. Thanks  mrsgreenjeans and JDollprincess.

Another inquiry for everyone. Has anyone experienced your baby getting a fat lip at times? Cheech gets a fat bottom lip sometimes. The vet had no idea what it was (SIGH).

I am amazed that they didn't send, dang, can't think of what it's called, any way it looks like a syringe but has a curved tip on it and you fill it with water and then you flush out the area where the tooth was at.  My male had his two canines removed and they sent that home with me and at least twice a day I would flush out those areas so that whatever food was stuck would get flushed out.  What the heck were they thinking?  And, seriously, humans are told not to use q-tips.  Why would they do it with a cat?
