My mom has a 13 year old Russian blue, kiki. My mom is also stubborn and won't take her to the vet. The cat has been vomiting about once or twice a week, sometimes more, for a little over a year. Her diet was an indoor Purina food until 3 months ago when she was switched to a grain free food, not sure of the brand..I think it has a doctor's name in it. At about the same time kiki's diet was changed she still urinated in the litter box, but 3 or 4 times she has pooped right outside the litter box. The last few days, she has been pooping in a different room, always in the same general area. Her litter box is changed weekly and scooped daily. Are there any at home remedies? Does she need to see a vet? What are some things that could be causing this? Thank you so much!

1. what does the vomit look like?  is it thin and foamy, or thick and gooey, is there a hairball, or is it a full meal?...

2. Grain free is a step in the right direction, but are we talking wet or dry?

3. What does the poop look like? (I know, gross, lol).  Is it well formed? loose? dry? small? large?

4. How often is she pooping?  every day? 2 days? 3?

My first instinct is to say that she is possibly constipated.  Pooping in different places usually happens when they are having a difficult time of it.  More moisture in the diet can help.  A mild laxative might be necessary to get things moving again.  My vet has recommended a very small dose of Miralax in the past.

Or she's been yelled at, and she is seeking a more secluded spot to go, ... 'cause, ya know, she's gotta go somewhere.  Always use positive motivation when getting a cat to do anything.  Negative discipline really just doesn't work nearly as well.  I've actually trained my cats to use the toilets, they're pretty good, but every once in a while I have to spend some time re-encouraging them.
