We have 4 cats, 3 of which are indoor only.  The one that goes outside is older, and doesn't wander much further than her favorite chair on the patio... and that is the only reason she is allowed to go out.

Four cats is plenty for us.  It's a number that kinda just happened.  The three indoor cats are all the same family.  I got momma kitty when she was pregnant (at 5 months old!), and we ended up keeping 2 of the kittens.  They all turned 11 this year.

Our oldest is 17, and is in early/mid stage CRF.  I don't know if we'll fill her spot when she leaves us.

We also have a "token dog". lol  She is 13, and has Addison's.  She gets along with the cats pretty well, and one of the boys just adores her.

Five animals in all makes for a full house in our book.

I have 4 indoor only cats and 3 outdoor feral cats.  Not overwhelming, but I choose to care for my cats as if they were my children.  I keep money on my account at my vet. I choose to spend money on my cats because they give me more joy than anything else I could spend my money on.

Our only two.

Mo has been indoor/outdoor and if it were up to my boyfriend and we lived in a more suitable area away from busy streets and big cities, he would probably let him outdoors again. I wouldn't though. If they can be safe and happy indoors, that's the way I would like to keep it. I don't have enough trust in other people, in other animals, in motorists, and in nature to keep my pets as safe as they could be in my home.

Crazy, It's like you were talking about our house. This is exactly us too. Jasmine (the oldest) is the only one allowed outside, mostly because she gets very depressed when she's cooped up inside, and also because she doesn't wander.

Our's just kind of happened too, Jas was taken from an abusive home, Pyre from a farm as a baby before she was drowned, Destiny and Noriel were both off the street. Sometimes I feel like we need a WAY bigger home for us and 4 kitties, but I have no regrets. DH and I can't have human children, so our kitties are our babies, it only really gets expensive when they get sick at the same time.

I just have 1 indoor kitty - Ruby - who I got from the SPCA last November and is around 3 or 4 years old.

She was brought to the shelter by someone who found her on the street, so she has been outside, but she seems content to live an indoor life now, including sleeping *under* the covers with me at night..  I think she enjoys being Mommy's only girl, and financially one cat works best for me.

Just two cats, both indoor, but with access to an outdoor enclosure.

Three cats, indoor only. We do not have the space for other cats and I think it would become difficult from a financial point of view, but if I would have more space and if that space would be my own (not a rental), I am not sure I would be able to stop taking in other cats.

Seven, in a big house with four floors. They also have their own cottage in the garden, where they spend a lot of time in the summer, but in the winter, they're always in the house. ^_^

Cottage? I meant bungalow type building. Actually, it's more of a huge room, but it has chicken wiring outside so the cats can go in and look out onto the garden within the safety of an enclosure.

Winchester, Thank you for telling me about your fur kids. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The love you have for your kids is so evident. I agree that when we loose our pet it is comforting to know that we gave him lots of love and a good life with us.  What is sip at night? I bought a case of Friskies the last time I was at Sam's Club. But all they had where a variety of cuts or slices no pate.

Very lucky Kitties the best of both indoor and and a safe outdoor. I can't provide any outdoor areas for mine because we live in a town home.

Sip is cat milk. Comes in a 3-pack, but I think you might be able to buy a pack at a time, too. It's basically lactose-free milk, I think, for cats. I get it at PetSmart....our grocery store only carries Whiskas milk and I'm not real crazy about Whiskas. Our clan has been getting Sip for years, mostly at night right before bed as a bit of a treat for them. They all enjoy it. They also get Cool Claws in the summer, which is vanilla ice cream for cats. That comes in six little bars to a package. I break each bar into thirds. The clan loves it. You can find that in your grocer's freezer section, if they carry it. It's called Frosty Paws for dogs and Cool Claws for cats. A nice little treat for them.

Oh, I have to tell you, too....we have catnip parties in the house. Usually on Saturday mornings or afternoons when I'm home. I'll get the catnip out and they all come running, even the old kids. I put it in piles on the living room floor, one small pile to a cat. They eat it, they roll in it, then they lick their fur. They have a great time with it. I don't think we've ever had a cat that didn't like catnip. They get stoned and I let them lay around on the floor for a while, then they all come out to the kitchen for a bit of a snack. After they've eaten, I carry them back to the bedroom and flop them on the bed. They'll nap while I vacuum the floor. None of the kids likes the vacuum, so this way, they're all out of the way and I don't have to deal with them when I vacuum the living room.

I have never seen a full case of pate for Friskies; usually it has other stuff in it, too. Wish I could because I'd grab it in a heartbeat.

I really wish we could make some kind of outdoor enclosure for the clan because I know they'd enjoy it so much. If we were to ever build some kind of a porch out back, we'd screen it so the kids could come out with us. I'd never leave them alone out there anyway, because about the time I do, something would happen. But it would be so nice for them to be able to go outside with us.

Hi you quoted my post before I edited it. I wanted to write more about what a great home you are providing your fur kids!

They are a lot of fun aren't they? Our's bring so much joy to my 9y/o daughter and I. It  hurts Anna so much to see homeless cats she cries.I initially adopted her a cat because she has always asked me for a cat. She was born to dogs in the house so she took the dogs for granted. Never really formed a bond with them. I thought having a special pet would help with her abandonment issues. Anna's father has popped in and out of her life since she was an infant often times going a year without any contact. Currently she hasn't seen or heard from him since last March. She is definitely a cat person. When we go to Pet Smart she says, mommy can we not go over and look at the cats it makes me sad.

I just worry about getting in over my head.Especially when they get older. They are all young and healthy now.  I am 52 now so when they get old I will be old too!  I was reminded of that the other day when I had my little dog's teeth cleaned at the tune of 265.00 OUCH! So this last adoption will be it for us. We bring Beauty home Fri. We adopted her on Sun but we will be out of town tonight until tomorrow so felt it best to leave her with her foster Mom until  Fri. I will post photos when we bring her home. The one photo I posted is from the rescue's Facebook.

I am defiantly going to buy the cat sip next time we are at pet smart. I think they will enjoy it. I also think it's a very good way to get liquids in them. I'll have to share it with my dog Callie though. Wow ice cream for cats. Will also be checking that out. I have never seen it before at the grocery store. But I can't say that I have ever looked for cat ice cream!! What kind of cat nip do you buy? I bought a small tub of inexpensive cat nip and it really hasn't been a big hit with my three. I was thinking about finding a better quality. Also I will try giving each a small pile on the floor. I have only rubbed it in their beds, cat trees and toys. Again thank you your posts are a joy to read.

We have two.  We lost our Cindy in September and a month ago got a kitten, who now also has medical issues.  I can't afford any more, I'm not sure I can afford these. Wwe are so in debt from Cindy's medical bills over her two years fighting cancer and now Darcy has some unknown ailment that has cost us over $1,500 so far, and still don't know what it is.  Two is perfect, as long as they get along.

caltritwiamb4 caltritwiamb4 We first has one indoor cat that lived inside 10 years. She died and we got a male cat who lived inside with us. When we added another cat, my husband developed severe allergies. At that time, we purchased the "Cat Fence In" system and attached it to an existing chain link fence. Then we got a third cat. They were all males. We built a new house and when we moved we put up another fence and installed the same system. The screen porch opens into the back yard where the cats lived for a good while. Because we live in isolated country area, we began to have issues with bobcats and coyotes. When we realized it, we started taking the cats out of the yard and letting them sleep in a big animal cage in the garage. Hubby installed a heat/AC system for them on the wall. Then we had the porch rescreened last year with pet screen. All of our cats have These three cats that we moved with have died, but we added a female cat about nine years ago. We still have her. She goes in the yard where the fenced area with the Fence In System is installed sometimes during the day. She has a big insulated dog box out there for protection from rain and cold. Mostly now though, she just lives on the screen in porch. Then at night she sleeps in the garage. We have some nice furniture out there. Hubby can enjoy sitting on the porch and holding her for a bit. It doesn't bother him too much as he is in the open air.
She is so spoiled and she just loves to be on the porch. She has a tiny little insulated box out there to get in if it rains and we are gone, or she can get under the sofa. There is a litter box there for her too.
She has it made and she knows it.:lol3: With this kind of living arrangement we don't have to worry about 4 legged critters, owls or eagles which are plentiful.

My happy place.
We have 2 indoor cats at the moment, Sasha and Amber. We had 3 up till August last year but we lost our boy Monty to cancer. Ours are not strictly indoor because we have an enclosure for them in the garden so they don't roam and are safe.
When I was growing up we had 5 cats (2 of them used to go out for a short time, never very far) and 2 dogs (we had 3 dogs but only 2 at any one time) and it was wonderful. I'm an only child so I was never short of a furry friend to pour my heart out to if I was having boyfriend trouble or an argument with my parents. My dad is actually my step-dad and we have never been close, I don't know my real dad. Animals are such good listeners!
My mum would have liked to rescue all the cats if she could! It would always be my mum and I that would be snuggled up with the cats while my dad would be out with the dogs.
Good luck again with Beauty!

I've had one cat all my life.    I lost my cat in April and a few months later I adopted a 4 month old from a friend who had the feral mother living in her yard.

Just a few weeks ago I noticed a young cat wandering around my home.  He looked well fed so I figured he'd eventually find his way home.  Nope.  About 2 weeks ago as I'm coming home from work in the rain this poor little thing comes hopping up to me with an injured front leg.    Of course, I couldn't leave him so I ran inside to get a carrier and rushed him over to my vet.

I begged my vet to help me find a home for him.   They agreed to keep him overnight even though its not something they normally do.  They called me the next day asking me what I wanted to do.  If I didn't take him they'd have to call animal control and they are not sure what would happen with him next.   Sigh

So I agreed to take him even though I was a nervous wreck having always been a 1 cat person at a time type.   Instructed my vet to give him shots, neutered, etc.

He's home with me now.  I did the whole slow introduction with my Lokhi and its worked.  Happy to say they are getting along well.  They wrestle a lot but it doesn't seem anything vicious.    The new one is still healing with the fractured front leg but he has a happy home now.

It's been a bit challenging for me having 2.  The whole how many litter box thing.  Making sure both are getting their food.  The new one is hungry 24/7 so that is new to me.  My Lokhi eats well but not like this!    I'm still learning.

I had 2 litter boxes because I had to keep them separated for about a week.  Now that they are together I reduced to 1 little box.    I know having 2 boxes is better based on everything I read but I live in an apartment and 1 box in the bathroom just works better for me.   So far so good.

I named him Rain since I found him in the rain.  It was either that or Gimpy ;p     I'm glad I took him. It makes me happy to see him so happy to have home, food and warm place to sleep.  Plus my Lokhi now has a playmate when I'm at work.

I had a total of 8 indoor cats but now I'm down to two cats. They are 15 and 16 years old and they both have kidney disease. I had a feral colony for 17 years but I had to have the last one put to sleep a month ago due to illness. Once Muffin and Muffy are gone the time of me owning cats will be over. I'm just not able to care for any more pets.
