So this is Loki. She is now pregnant with her second litter, Her first litter was 6 all healthy no complications and very fast, the father cat was also small like her both around 7-8 lbs but this second litter i believe is fathered to a much larger neighboorhood cat when she accidently got out before we could fix her after we moved. I can feel the kittens just when i pet her sides and they feel just about the same size as the last kittens but she is not nearly as big as before im afraid if they get any bigger she could have troubles, im thinking shes atleast 8 weeks any opinions?

I hope it will go well.  Should.   I mean, males are usually bigger, sometimes quite a bit bigger.   And it is her second litter, after the first was problem free.

That said, prepare as well you can for all eventualityies.  As the proverb tells:  "The guarded and prepared is protected by  the Lord Himself".

But  dont misuse Gods protection too much: please spay her after this her second litter.  And if she happens to sneak out again, spay her  immediately /shortly afterwards.

Good luck!

If you know when she got out I guess you have a decent idea of how far along she is :D. Unless she got out more than once.

Unless it's a single kitten (and you've felt more than that), kittens being too big for the mother isn't usually a problem. But of course keep the vet's phone number handy, lots of things can go wrong in birthing.

So I belive my Loki girl is in the final stretch of her pregnancy and I read that if you take the temp daily it can give you an idea if labor is near well the past two days she has read 100-101F but tonight she was at 99.9 (I took it twice to be sure) should I be expecting labor or is it still to high

Typically, it will drop three grade F, or a whole grade Celcius.

But we usually do not recommend taking temp here.  They come anyway when they come, and the stressing up is not necessary, not worth it.  Especielly, if you measure the classical way, in the behind.

The modern ear thermometres  isnt so much fuss with, so they are approved.

Another, non invasive way, is to measure in the armpit of the foreleg.  You can always pretend you are playing a game with her....   :)

Observe, the temp measured at these places is lower, also here typically   3F/1C lower   (I dont have modern ear-thermometer, it is possible it autamtically compensates, showing a higher number, which is supposed to show the correct temp).

Anyway, as the measuring behind is the only one fully exact,  you must calibrate the other two: ie simply, measure  in good time, when the cat is in normal, healthy condition, and at rest.  This way, you will know the normal, starting temp, to compare with.

In your case here, you arent anxious for any exact temp, you want a comparison: had it dropped about 3F / 1C, or had it not?   Or, God forbide, had it raised into fever??

Good luck!

Ps.  Looki is a beautiful girl.   I think she is spotted tabby for real, it isnt just broken mackerel tabby.    Nice!

Ps2.   I will add some links.  You will perhaps find some use of them.

Most of these links have been readied by our forumist  Red Top Rescue:

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  After reading this information, let us know if you have any more questions.  And good luck with your approaching new arrivals.
