Hi there,
Attached are a couple of pictures of my childhood best friend. He wasn't even ours, he was a neighbour's. She claimed he was a Balinese but whenever I search 'Balinese', the pictures just don't match up. He had the most amazing personality and temperament. He loved kids and was totally devoted to our family as we showed him an awful lot of love. Sadly, the neighbour (who wasn't very approachable) moved and we never saw him again.
15 years on, I am desperate to find out what breed he was and his specifics as I'd very much like a cat like him now I'm older.
Many thanks in anticipation :-)

He was probably a pointed domestic (no/little purebred background), and she just saw something saying that Balinese are longhaired Siamese and figured that was it ;). Although his face was somewhat oriental-ish so maybe he had some recent purebred background, but I don't see any indication he himself was purebred.

As for personality, if you go to your local shelter you may be able to find a cat that has that kind of personality, although every kitty is unique so there will never be another kitty just like him :D.

I agree, if you keep looking you will probably find one that looks like him but may not match his temperament. He definitely has 'points' which usually means some Siamese mix in there, did he have blue eyes? Siamese/oriental traits usually include a lot of 'talking' too did he meow a lot? I have found that neutered males seem to be more loving and calm, females seem to want to 'rule the roost', but that is not true all the time too, just my experience. Just get to know a cat first, they seem to stay pretty much true to how they act as kittens, but remember, kittens are HIGH energy and HIGH maintenance, an older cat is calmer. Some will be nervous and shy, some bold and curious, try to find one in between. In my 50 years of owning cats I can also tell you that cats seems to choose who they want to be with, not the other way around! If you are considering getting a cat, please consider adopting two, they are truly no more trouble and keep each other entertained and play together.
I'm sure your childhood friend was truly one of a kind, but I'll bet you can find a new best friend who will be with you for many years to come. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you to you both :-)

Di, he was very talkative - with a loud meow. He would sit by me whilst I did my homework and not move until I had finished! He did have beautiful blue eyes - not deep blue, more of a lighter blue.
I wasn't allergic to him, neither was my mum; who is very allergic to cats and dogs. I am also allergic to cats so I want to be careful with which cat I get. I have read that breeds such as Balinese, Neva Masquerades and Siberians are hypoallergenic. They all look quite similar too!
I know I'll never find a cat exactly like him but I really hope to find one similar. You could say he was a bit like a dog too... Begging for food, paws on lap, climbing the cupboard!
I've never had a pet to call my own but I really hope to get a beautiful cat like Ming so I can love it like I loved him :-)

Many thanks once again [emoji]128049[/emoji]

His face seems to be quite balinesish, or orientalish.   Based on the face alone, I would say he could be a balinese.

But the fur is longer than typical balinese, so my guess will be like said earlier, he is some mix, but it may had began with a balinese yes.

Siberians are known many allergics manage them well.  I suppose the same may be said about Neva Masquerade, which is a sibling breed.   And also, outside Russia and countries nearby, pointed Siberians are allowed.

Try with them if you so want.

But the exact allergen traits are individual, both for the cat and for the allergic person.  So best is to try out the main candidate, and have a plan B for said cat. For example, some allergy free relative who is willing to take the cat, if it becomes clear you cant keep it.   Or agree with the shelter you take the cat for try out, and if you dont works out, they take it back.

Also,  taking care of the cat and fur does help much.  I have heard not about balineses, but persians, some allergics do manage them.  My theory here is, people usually do take care about the long fur scrupolously, bathing and combing often - and this does the trick....   :)

Otherwise, to find a cat who behaves similiarly, the safest is to search among cats who are already adult; ie a good shelter, or somewhere where you can find cats seeking new homes.

Good luck!   @xLittlexRachx
