That's my assignment for Saturday. Five batches of each. Not dozens....batches.

My sister, my niece, and my nephew's SO  (and her mother) and I are in this cookie exchange. My niece's favorite cookie, bar none, is snickerdoodles (and just who does that remind us of, eh?). Seems I'm the snickerdoodle whiz around here. We need the cookies by December 6, but I'm not making that many cookies at night after work, so I'm going to make them this Saturday. That's really only four batches of each, but there's no way I can make snickerdoodles and not make a batch for Dear Richard. And when he found out about the gingersnaps, he asked for a batch of those, "while you're making them".

Will somebody please come help me bake cookies on Saturday? We're going to my sister's on Saturday for dinner and, since I'm not going to be around next weekend (Rick is taking me to see Billy Joel next Friday night and we're thinking about spending the night out in State College instead of coming home late), that means I must bake this Saturday.

Both snickerdoodles and gingersnaps are easily frozen, so they can take them to their homes and throw them in the freezers. Although I have serious doubts that my niece's snicks will last that long.

And I just found out that my nephew's SO has two sisters who also love to bake and who also would love to do the cookie exchange next year. That means seven batches of each next year. Oy

I love Snickerdoodles.  I have tried making Gingersnaps but they never turned out right.  They tasted good but they were too soft, they didn't have the 'snap' that they are supposed to have.  I always had the really stiff dough but I still didn't get a cookie that snapped.

My mom makes yummy snickerdoodles.

I like Trader Joe's triple ginger cookies but homemade gingersnaps never have enough ginger flavor. They just taste sort of spice-cake-ish.

I think there is a trick to making homemade gingersnaps and I was never able to figure it out.  I like Trader Joe's gingersnaps as well and they are one of the very reasonably priced things that they have.

I love snickerdoodles!!

I'd help with the cookies if you can help with  my pies on Wednesday!  But I have company coming Sunday so I need to finish getting my house together for that.

I saw the title of this thread and thought.. that'll be Winchester..
And I would love to come and help you bake them, but it's a bit of a hike...

We don't have snickerdoodles in Australia.  Maybe I should introduce them?

Yepper, tis me! I am not looking forward to making a ton of cookies on Saturday; we had other plans, but well, things happen.

I think you should introduce snickerdoodles....who knows, you may come up with a hit on your hands. Goodness knows, those buggers are pretty popular around here.

Denice, do you sprinkle your gingersnap balls of dough with water after rolling in sugar? A very light sprinkle, maybe two drops of water per dough ball. That is supposed to help make them crackle. I tried 3 different gingersnap recipes last year for this cookie exchange and still couldn't get them to crackle the way they were supposed to. I was frustrated beyond belief. I never had that much trouble with gingersnaps!

Those dark chocolate pumpkin cookies look wonderful!

I never tried the drops of water.  I wonder if they are the same kind of deal as yeast breads, how they turn out depends on things like humidity and room temp.
