Hi hope somebody can give me some advice. I have a 6 month old kitten that I've had since I found her at 4 weeks. Was feeding her milk replacement which she LOVED then gave her science diet dry kitten. She now has wet food in addition to dry but will only lick the gravy and leave the meat. I have tried so many varieties & of course she likes the cheap friskies & fancy feast the best yet still only licks it. She doesn't like pate either. She LOVES treats & friskies dry food that's multicolor as well. I tried blue wilderness kitten dry & the pieces were so hard she didn't like it. Not sure what else to try! She is so finicky :-( Thank you for your help!

Welcome to TCS!! If you go through the discussions here, you'll see that the dry vs wet food debate is one of the most discussed topics. Most people here do not recommend dry as although raw is really the best way to go, a lot of people shy away from it for various reasons. With that being said, out of  those that do not go the raw route, most go for wet food only diets as cats need a high protein, low carb diet and most kibbles don't provide that. There are, however, people here who do feed dry food but usually with wet, most do not feed dry only. If you must go with dry for whatever reason, please go for a very high quality food that has meat as the first ingredient and is as high in protein and low in carbs as possible. Many people here recommend Orijen. They do make a cat/kitten formula as you can see here http://www.orijen.ca/products/cat-food/dry-cat-food/cat-kitten/

Science Diet is not considered a high quality food. My cats were on it when I got them from the shelter and I transitioned them from that to a wet only diet shortly after I got them. You can find a lot of information on feline nutrition here http://www.catinfo.org

My cats are very picky eaters as well, so I know what you're going through with that. Mine did not eat with any real enthusiasm when I had them on dry and now that we have a good rotation of high quality wet foods, they enjoy mealtime much more and their coats are softer and shinier and they are very healthy. Please also remember that cats get most of their water intake from the food they eat as opposed to a water bowl so most cats have to be encouraged to drink. A lot of cat owners have fountains which are great to get cats to drink. Cats on a dry diet definitely need to get extra water in them due to the lack of it in their diet. If you would like some recommendations for wet foods that my 2 very finicky eaters have given their seal of approval to
, let me know and I will give you a list.

Good luck! There's always someone here if you need advice. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience here. This is my first experience with cat servitude and I have learned so much here. You will, too.

Hi, and welcome to TCS.

I've also been over the wet/dry debate in my house. Finally settled on feeding some of each as wet-only left my cats hungry. The problem that I find with dry food and kittens is that the kibbles are too hard. My Midnight actually lost some teeth on Purina kitten chow, and never grew them back.

My boys like Friskies fish flavors for cheap wet. For better quality, I buy wellness. I feed Wellness dry, which isn't that far off the price of Science Diet but is amuch better quality. Apparently only fish-flavored food is good enough for my boys lol but Wellness comes in all flavors :)

I understand what you are going through . I have 2 super picky cats . It took me a awhile to find a wet food they will eat ..

We have settled on Fancy Feast Classics . They love  Turkey & Giblets  and  Ocean Whitefish & Tuna  flavors ..

My cats will  not eat the pate right out of the can  , I have to mix a  1  can of very hot water with a can  of food to make  a smooth paste and split it between them  and they lick it all up .. They   eat this twice a day ..

Maybe you could  try this with your kitty and see if she likes it that way ..

Because my cats like their FF so watered down I also feed them  a bit of kibble each day  , about 1/4 cup ..

For dry food you could try Fromm 4 Star Grain Free . The kibble are pretty tiny ..  My cats love this brand ..

Good luck ..

Thank you all so much for your responses! I just want to give her the best and it is very frustrating trying to find something that works. Going to try to get to Petsmart this week and try a wellness wet food & a different brand of dry. Not sure why she didn't like the Blue a Wilderness Kitten- think the kibbles were too crunchy and big. She seems like like fishy flavors better than chicken. Wish me luck!!
