There is a growing colony in my neighborhood, probably because I started feeding them & their kittens are surviving & reproducing.  I am not aware of any TNR programs close enough to help me, and I'm not in the position to be able to manage this on my own.

I spend around $300 a month providing wet & dry food, and have 4 heating pads going on my porch on cold nights.  Keeping up with putting out the food, collecting paper plates & drinking bowls, recycling all those cans (200 a week) is getting very difficult with the other responsibilities I have.

If anyone lives near me can help in way (especially if they are experienced with TNR &  have equipment) I would be most appreciative.  Any other suggestions are welcome!

Do a search on rescue organizations in your area.  They might be able to help you out.  All of the cats need to be spayed/neutered ASAP or your problem will continue to grow.  Call, leave messages and email as many area rescue groups, humane societies,etc..  Ask for help.  Many local rescue groups will assist with TNR and provide traps and vouchers for spay/neuter.

Please look around for help or your problems will be far worse as the cats continue to multiply.

Thank you for replying, but I had already done that research & there is nothing in this county.  The best I could find were vets who would give a reduction on neutering if you pay full price for other services.  That is why I am appealing to private individuals who might have some skills or equipment.

I am very sad about this situation, first because previous cat owners decide to dump their cats when it's no longer convenient to car for them, and then because animal services in this county are so inadequate.

How far are you from gainesville Florida? Look up operation catnip. They ask for donations but are free for gainesville residents. I don't think they ask for proof of residency so just give them any address... you only have to have a wire trap. They don't accept cat carriers.

I've brought them cats several times. You can borrow traps from the humane society for a refundable fee.

I realize that may be a drive for you, but if you can trap everyone it might be worth it. You drop off very early and pick up in the afternoon.

Gainesville is 120 miles each way.  Last night I had 15 cats looking for food in my yard, and I put out enough for them all as I knew a storm was coming through today.  I am 66 & have MS; what you are proposing is way beyond my abilities, but if I were close I could try doing one cat at a time.

Thank you for responding.

Well, it's been almost a year since I started this thread, and about a month ago several people were involved with trapping 11 cats from my colony.  There are still 4 virile males who avoided getting trapped, strutting their stuff in front of the only unspayed female (she's always pregnant, nursing a litter, or both), plus 5 kittens.  So there's some progress!

Bessie, bless you for trying to help these poor cats.  Are you able to socialize and try to adopt out any of the kittens?
