Hello. Happy Saturday.

Today's question is, What is your pet peeve?

For me it's people who drop litter. Makes my blood boil, why can't they just put it in a bin or hold onto it until they find a proper place to get rid of it?

How about you?

Mine is people who chew with their mouths open. I saw the food on the plate; I don't want to see it being all gummed up in your mouth. Disgusting.

I think this is a pretty common one as it's probably mine as well.  I walked past a jewellery shop today and the rather glamorous saleswoman was standing behind the counter chewing gum with her mouth open.. Sort of wrecked the effect!!
And I have an Aunt who will talk to you with her mouth way open while eating and it is completely gross.. I can't look at her.

My other 'biggie' is both the people who make up stuff and send it around by email, and those who send it on without checking it.  I honestly think the meaning of 'truth' is being blurred these days.

Gum chewing.  Especially when someone is snapping and popping it.

The other, is nail biting.  My ex used to do this all the time.  All. The. Time.  Try taking a long road trip with a grown person who has fingers in their mouth for 2 hours.  I thought I'd throw myself out the car sometimes.

In a place you don't want to be...
Veterinarian's who profess to be well educated, have big ego's, who say declawing a cat is no big deal, when in fact is is a major orthopedic operation of the phalanx bone...BUT, THE BIG ONE is they say I don't want to do it but I must please my clients.

Repetitive noises drive me nuts. Tapping, whistling, singing the same tune over and over, etc. My husband is bad for it and I'm constantly telling him to stop.
It's starting to get annoying that my 2 year old is always saying "what are you doing mommy? mommy? mommy? what are you doing mommy? mommy?" This goes on all day every day and even after answering her, she keeps asking.

I must need a nap...I was thinking cat litter.  Like you've seen people repeatedly dropping cat litter places...  wow...

Yes!!  The noises are what get me the most; though I don't appreciate the sight either. I can look away; but the noise is SO hard for me to tune out!  Sometimes my DH manages to chew loud even with his mouth shut.  Poor him; he knows it drives me nuts and I'll just look at him and he's like: "
 my mouth is shut!"

Welcome to my world!  Wait till the kids are in stereo!
Some days i have to ask my 4 year old to just stop talking.  Or put her on the phone with my mother.  That always works!
Or tell her we are having quiet time; so she goes to play in her room for a bit.

All kids seem to go through the 'why' stage.   No matter what it is it's why sometimes for no apparent reason it's why.  I would have to bite my tongue sometimes to not snap at my kids to shut up or I don't know why.

i have two pet peeves. equally annoying to me are --

being made to wait at a doctors office for an appointment for over an hour past the appointment time. i mean, if they know they'll always (and it is always) be running late, then why not tell patients to come for their appointment one hour later than the time scheduled. i, for one, have things needing to be done and don't appreciate my time being wasted.

the very annoying trend for manufacturers to shrink the packages/products while keeping the price the same or raising the price, and expecting that consumers won't notice that something is amiss. it's just plain sneaky and underhanded, as simple as that. i'd rather have the price go up for the item than have the items shrunk. and then there's the 4 pound bag of sugar -- what purpose is there for that? i simply won't buy products that have been shrunk or 4 pound bags of sugar, on principle. i won't support that kind of thing being okay to do.

Gum chewing definitely is a pet peeve. Also incorrect English --- ex: me and my husband, And people who use the word "like" all the time.

I'm with you on the incorrect English. I'm an English teacher and I just can't help myself when it comes to correcting other people's grammar. In fact, if you ask any of my friends or relatives what their pet peeves are they'd probably say,

"Laura correcting me every time I speak."

I don't know what you mean by dumping litter. They just take it and dump it in the woods or something?

Enjoy the constant chatter of your kids and clinging to you while their young.

My daughter is 10 and is going through the tween stage a bit early I think. She will spend hours alone in her room a lot of times with the door shut. I ask her to please at least open your door. I feel so disconnected to her when she does this. I ask her how would she  like if I went in my room all the time and closed the door for hours. Although actually I do spend a lot of time in my room with the door open. Funny though she still climbs in bed with me in the middle of the night, usually doesn't even wait until the middle of the night.

I am that gum chewer that gets on everyones nerves. I use to smoke for over 30 years. I quit 8 years a go I picked up the habit of gum chewing and it can become an obsessive nervous habit that takes a consiense effort to control. Especially while I am working my stressful job.

I definitely can relate to the nail biting. My daughter has recently started this habit. While we are in the car she gnaws on her nails and cuticles the whole time. Also while shopping she will be sitting in the cart because she still insists on riding and will  gnaw the entire time. The more I tell her to stop

she just gets angrier and the more she continues. But it is so hard not to both because I am concerned about her and because it is getting on my nerves.

I have a co worker who speaks very disrespectfully to me often hits below the belt and can be very hurtful. She is rude and bossy.  When I assert my self she becomes very  arguementive, she is never wrong and will often lie to be  right. I try to ignore her because I know if I approach  her assertively in the end I  react   and then I am always more disappointed in myself in the end and even more angry with her. But a lot of times the issues are too serious not to assert myself with her but she always gets the last word. She seems to get a thrill at getting my goat and pushing my buttons.

I guess  the co-worker is more  than a pet peeve.

Fellow grammar police checking in. I don't correct people, but whenever I see a native speaker constantly mixing up your/you're, should/could/would of (haven't figured out how this mistake is so common), there/their/they're, I have a hard time taking what they say seriously.

:anon:
:lol3: That's how I am, having taught English for so long, but a lot depends on whether the person is a native speaker of English. Of course, there are some people who become annoyed when I don't correct their English. A friend is a native Cantonese speaker and has always had trouble conjugating verbs and with singular vs. plural, although otherwise his English is terrific. He gripes when I don't point out that "they goes" and "in many case" are wrong, for example.

One of my pet peeves is people butting ahead in lines (queue jumpers).

A few years ago, my neighbors were out at their pool. One of the grandkids was there and she kept saying, "Mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy...". Well, you get the idea. I was working outside and that was all I heard! The mother was talking on her cell and blithely ignoring the little girl.

Finally, I couldn't take it anymore (this went on for well over an hour) and I hollered over, "Would you pul-leese answer your daughter?"

Wasn't too long after that they went into the house and I had a good couple of hours of blessed peace.
