I have a 3 year old rescue Torti named Emma, I have had her since she was 6 weeks. I had to pull her because the situation was so bad. I love my cat even though as all animals she has a annoying habits. But Emma does not seem to like me. As a baby we cuddled. I spent every moment taming her working on bonding with her. She was in miserable shape when I got her, I worried so much constantly. It took us until she was 6 months to get a clean bill of health.

However, Emma does not seem to really like me, she tends to avoid me she won't really cuddle up to me the only time she acknowledges me is when she is stressed ( She turns into velcro kitty) , when I go outside without her, Or when she thinks she will be fed.

I know I am not the greatest cat owner, I grew up with dogs, I am use to the loving you every moment and wanting constant contact. With Emma though ... I feel like any moment she gives me is precious.

I don't know what to do to encourage her that I am a good guy, that I really do love her. I know I am reading a bit much into it, But she happily cuddles up to my boyfriend and purrs and spends all day with him.

I just want to win her over. Its certainly harder than my dog.

W/ the best cats
Emma definitely likes you in her own way. The fact that she turns to you for comfort specially at times of stress is a sign you are very important to her. I always expect the unexpected from my cats. I think it's because they are such independent creatures.

I have begun buying her favorite wet foods and I offer them every night. So at least she is learning again that i bring good things.

My dads cat is like a dog, and Emmas mother and siblings I cuddled with daily. ( her old owner is my moms ex fiance so I knew the family of cats well and would sneak them in whenever I could) so to me its just odd how different she is. One of her brothers would wake me every morning by licking my arms lol

My son (31) has a cat, MJ, and MJ is simply all about himself... on occasion will jump up on son's lap, but not often...we call him Mr Grumpy Pants. My son gives him attention... MJ just doesn't have the type of personality to cuddle much... the important thing is that you are available to him ...(on his terms of course) haha

Doesn't sound like she's rejected you at all!

Cats are different from dogs - they aren't eager to please and they don't want constant love. Depending on the cat they can get cuddly but even then on their own terms. A happy cat is one that wanders and does his own thing. An upset cat is constantly on alert and reacting to every one of your movements, and a bored cat will constantly act out and get into trouble. As far as I can tell though, your cat seems happy and healthy.

Does she seem relaxed in the same room as you? Maybe she needs some stimulants? Ever since I got a kitten for Wolf as a friend, he has been more cuddly - although mostly on the bed. BE WARNED this is not guaranteed and female cats can be territorial, but if you can find an activity that interests her, this may greatly improve your relationship!

As long as the dog is settled ( since he is always by my side) she is perfectly content to let me come up and touch her, on her terms of course. I guess I just got lucky with dads cat and Emmas mom, both love cuddles.

Emma is content to wander around and spend her days sleeping. She will come when called though sometimes. Its cute. I guess she picked that up because I only call her either when I can't find her or I have a special treat.

As for activities she is a light chaser, other than that she just likes sleeping.

I guess I am just a bit jealous she gives my boyfriend all the kitty love.

Though I have had to explain to him she is still my cat lol, I make the choices about her health, shots, general care , nutrition everything.

I love that you feel so strongly about your animal, this is an amazing quality in a animal owner.

Cats love in their own way, some are affectionate, some aren't, some just like to be in your presence while others love to lay on you for hours. There is no way in knowing what kind of animal you will get. But just because you see your cat is exhibiting "cold" behaviours, doesn't mean that they love you any less.

You mention that she gives your bf more love, I've seen cats that prefer the company of males over females (true story).

Just give her her space, let her come to you, don't let it get to you, whats important is that you give her a loving home.

The odd thing is Emma is terrified of men other than him. The person who mistreated her was a man, now whenever she see's a fairly tall man she slinks and hisses.

Whenever people come in our house I ask them to stay away from the cat and explain she is afraid of new people.
