Hello. Before I say anything, I have already scheduled a vet appointment for my cats, and am simply looking for opinions in the meantime.

I own two DSH kitties, brother and sister (they were bottlefed orphans). They are now approximately 2 years old, and are spayed and neutered. Their diet is a mix of friskies canned food and purina cat chow dry food (not the best, but I plan to upgrade to better quality food soon). They are strictly indoor cats, and are super energetic and love to play.

As of recently, Rocky (the boy) has lost hair on both of his back legs. Shortly after, Bijou (the girl) also began to developed hair loss in the same place! The skin in the affected areas is scaly/red/dry and the cats seem to be licking the area quite a bit.

They have also begun to itch the areas around their face, neck, and ears. However, there is no hair loss or skin irritations in these areas. They have also started getting "dandruff", little white flakes or specks, though I do not know whether this is related to the hair loss, as they have experienced small amounts before.
(The first cat is Rocky, the second is Bijou)
Thanks!

Looks like the bald spots are on their heels? My cat has bald spots on his heels but not scaly or dry.

For dandruff, my cat used to have some on his lower back, but not anymore since I stopped feeding dry food.

Yes, the bald patches are in the heel area. If it weren't for the itching/licking/skin irritation I would be less worried... the patches are fairly small but have been gradually increasing in size over the past 2 weeks or so.

I hate to say it but it kind of looks like ringworm. Your vet can do a simple test to check for it. Could also be some type of allergy. Are you using any new cleaning products? Any new treats or new litter? Just in case it would be ringworm you should be extra vigilant in washing your hands after petting them since humans can get it also. Good luck and please keep us updated.

I haven't made any changes to any of those. We have moved to a new house a few months ago, but this problem has started recently. If they have ringworm, I hope I have not gotten it from them. I will wash my hands after petting, just in case... thanks for the insight :) Unfortunately the soonest I could schedule their appointment was next week, but I will update the thread after we see the vet.
