Dumb question: Just to be certain: Cats do sleep a lot, right?

That's what I've heard both in a serious and funny context - and just want to confirm this.

I'm taking medical leave for a few months in hopes of getting ahead of a potentially disabling medical condition and so I'm now home with my furbabies nearly all the time. The boy is 1 year 8 months old and the girl 1 year 6 months old.

Both of them play "chase me" with each other big time at least twice a day (usually just before feeding time), so I would consider them active. Even though they still do this, shortly thereafter they curl up and go to sleep - and sleep and sleep.

I would estimate that they sleep somewhere between 18 to 20 hours a day (not sure how much they sleep at night, there is evidence of at least one play session found each morning).

So, I'm guessing that is normal, but just checking because to me, that's a lot of sleeping!

That sounds pretty normal to me!  My girls will be 10 in February and they still get the crazies; usually during the night or shortly before we all get up for the day.  They sleep most of the day and get active again shortly before dinner; though no chasing since that would mean attracting attention from my 2 small children.  After I put my kids to bed they come looking for affection and some play.
