On the Wal-Mart website I made Rashid a 2004 calender with some of his fishing pictures. Cool, huh? I'm going to give it to him on Eid (holiday after the month of Ramadhan) if it gets here on time. If not... he'll get it for Chirstmas!
I'm really excited cuz I know he'll love it!

Anyone else have ideas for easy, kind of homemade gifts?
It's going to be very simple around here this year.

I don't have any good idea's for homemade gifts, but that calender sounds like a really great and thoughtful gift. When is Eid? Is it close to Hanukkah or Christmas?

There's no place like home
I usually do homemade gifts each year for the families (they are large and prohibitively costly to buy for all). I've done:

- family calendars
- Christmas ornaments
- Floral arrangements (either centerpieces or wall hangings)
- Canned jellies/jams (we make our own)
- Candle holders (buy the basic holder and decorate it)
- Table runners
- Herb packets

We've considered doing canvas shopping bags (we believe in recycling), scented soaps, and prepacked meals (like bread mixes, soup mixes, etc) but haven't gotten around to those ideas yet.

The biggest hit was the calendar - had family picture collages for each month and clipped a baby picture on their birthday, and wedding picture on their anniversary. That was a BIG project.

Eid changes every year because it goes by the lunar calender. This year it is going to be around the 25th or 26th of this month, depending on the siting of new moon.

Ahh, so it's usually close to Thanksgiving. Does Rashid celebrate Christmas with you? I'd say, if he does, than I'd wait until Christmas to give him the gift, especially if things are going to be simple, and you don't have a lot of money for all of the holidays.
