Black smoke, shaded, or something else?

This is Stella, when I got her she was very light and definitely looked black smoke, but now that she's getting older, she looks darker, although in some lighting and angles she still looks the same as she did, but other times (since she has grown in longer silkier hair) she does not. The first two pictures are from the day I got her (there are more pictures on my account) and the rest are from now (they're blurry, she never holds still). Aside from getting darker, she does have a few little completely white hairs growing in right on her nose, and her chest has a light grey patch. Does anyone know if she's black smoke, shaded, or something completely different?

She is a beautiful girl ;)

She is a black smoke

The reason she is looking darker as she gets older is because she is losing her kitten fluff and developing her adult coat. Her adult coat is slightly longer than her kitten fluff which is why the smoke pattern is getting less visible. This is how a smoke should look - solid black to look at until you part the hair, which then reveals that beautiful white undercoat. :D

GemsGem GemsGem Thank you so much! Is she going to get even darker or will this be her final color? Also I've noticed that as she gets older, she resembles a Maine Coon more and more (eye shape, tufts on her ears, the way her coat looks), only difference being she has half of a tail, but I don't know if she was born with it or if something happened, I will try to find out. Here are some pictures of her compared to different black smoke Maine Coons (Stella is always on the left)

GemsGem GemsGem She was born without her tail, her mom didn't have one, I completely forgot [emoji]128517[/emoji]
But the more I research she also strongly resembles Siberian cats, maybe eve more so than Maine Coons, could it be possible that since her mom had no tail that she got the half tail from her mom and her dad was a black smoke Siberian or Maine Coon?

You will probably find her color looks different throughout the year. In winter when she has her full thick longer winter coat - she will look darker. In summer when she has her slightly shorter thinner coat - she will look lighter :D

It's possible she could have a pedigree breed mixed in there, you never know ;)

The genes for short tails like the Manx gene and Japanese bob tail gene are dominant. So one parent must show the trait for it to be passed on and it cannot skip generations. :catguy:
