Sorry if this has been answered before. We have just moved house and I would like to know how long I should keep our cat inside before we start to give him access to outside?

We have been here a week and Cosmo is now very happy in the house ( not hiding anymore). He is now staring out the windows and meowling loudly when he can see the dogs playing outside.

Cosmo normally has free access inside and out during the day and is inside at night (it's the law here!.

Cheers

It's recommended to keep kitty in for — at the very least — 2 weeks because it takes a kitty about a week to 10 days to develop territory. Many cats are lost permanently after a recent move when the owner does not keep them in long enough, so you don't want to skimp on this.

Better would be to keep kitty in for 4 weeks. And when you let cat out, be sure it is little by little, under supervision, and just prior to meal times so cat has motivation to stay close by.

Of course better still would be to keep kitty indoors at all times.

Thanks for that. I have no problems keeping him in for that long, He can meow all he likes!
