Yesterday evening I adopted a 4 month old kitten from a local TNR program. He is a sweetheart and seems to be doing well. He's had his shots (just needs one more booster) and will be going in to be neutered in about a month. (Neuter was included in his adoption fee)

He seems to be eating fine (loving the wet food) and using his litter box. He is very lovey and just wants to cuddle.

My question is - I've noticed he drinks a lot of water compared to my other kitten. He drank half if a small bowl just through the night and this morning where my other 5 month old kitten would have hardly touched it. Should I be concerned or is this normal?

He might not have gotten enough water at the shelter, or he might have only gotten dry food at the shelter and is used to drinking a lot, or it's just the novelty of a new water dish. . .hard to say. For now I wouldn't worry but if he keeps doing it for more than a couple weeks you could ask the vet, although unless he starts drinking a several dishes a day I doubt it's anything to worry about. Maybe he just likes water :tongue2:.

Well....it IS kind of unusual.  But I agree with Willowy that I wouldn't worry about it just yet.   But if it continues, it might be worth having a blood test run because excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes or kidney disease or thyroid issues, although that would be extremely rare in a kitten, I would think.

You got a 4 month old kitten from a TNR program and he ISN'T neutered yet?  That's weird!  Well, when he goes in for his neuter, they'll be running a blood test, I hope, before they put him under, so at that time if anything is out of whack, you'll find out.

Hopefully he just likes water, as Willowy said

I have 3 kittens, now 9 months. Shadow loves water. She drinks from taps, from her bowl and her water fountain. I was really worried too at first but she's now been neutered and everything came back normal. She's been a water fan since I got her at 7 weeks. I would just monitor the situation for now. Good luck :lol3:
