Hi all,

A month ago, Tripper had a bout of cystitis, and is well by now.  Yesterday, noticed my other cat  Putz (I have 3) kept going into the litterbox.  She went after dinner, and peed and poo'd normally.  Then I noticed soon after, she zipped in again.  And right after zipping in, she hops right back out.  This occurred several times.  At one point, she vomited and lost her dinner.  This literally just started last night.  She was due for her dental today, so I mentioned it to the vet when I brought her in today.  The vet tried to get a urine sample but was unsuccessful.  She's going to be on antibiotics for the next few days, so if there IS an infection, I guess it will take care of it.

So.. is there anything I can do from home for now?  I think someone mentioned apple cider vinegar.  How much do you give and how often?  There's nothing my vet can do now and after her return from the vet, she is still hopping in and out of the boxes but not going.  (well, they couldn't get pee from her earlier either)

*sighs*  And for those with multi-cat households, do your cats "catch" urinary issues like this?  From what I understand, Tripper had crystals but no infection.  However, I am wondering if she may have developed issues from all the construction work going on outside my house.  (jackhammering and such)  I have no control over that since they are replacing old gas lines around me, but I'm starting to wonder if it stressed her out?

I am going to try zylkene (the stress reducing supplement) and apple cider vinegar to see if it helps her for now?  Thoughts?

Stress can definitely cause urinary issues.  In the meantime, maybe try some Rescue Remedy, or other types of calming for cats type things (Feliway is supposed to be good, especially for urinary issues), and be sure they all drink plenty, even if it means adding water to their food.  Try to feed WET food, if possible.

I'm not sure about the apple cider vinegar.  i, too, have heard that it helps, but cannot attest to it personally.  All I can tell you is that I have tried drinking it myself (diluted in water), and I absolutely could NOT do it
, and I'm pretty game when it comes to eating and drinking stuff.  So....trying to get it into a cat might be pretty stressful on the cat

I've had her on 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar 2x a day and the zylkene with her food.  She has stopped the litterbox hopping.  In fact, right after she had it, she went from grumpy to kitten.  Huh.  So at this point, not sure which of the two is helping her, but she is still peeing normal and has a happier disposition than normal.

All my cats are on canned food with added water for years.  Hence I'm surprised they even developed issues lately.  My boy was on Purina UR canned, which completely baffled my vet.  I'm still unsure what triggered my boy's bout of cystitis.  They are just such fragile creatures.

Oh, and my girl snarfed down her food with the added apple cider vinegar with no trouble.  :)  All 3 of my cats are not finicky.
