My cat is on Benedryl/Zyrtec for allergies his fur is backcon his ears but now he has sores under his chin. I know that feeding them in a ceramic bowl can cause this but he eats in plastic or metal bowls. What can be causing this and what can I use around the house to help? Im unable to take him back to the vet until next month. Any suggestions? . :kitty2:

It could be part of the overall reaction issues your kitty already has.  Ceramic and glass bowls aren't usually the culprit, it's the plastic bowls that are the issue.  I would recommend switching the bowl to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for replying. I changed the bowl and nothing has changed. I cjanged his food to a limited rabbit diet of dry food but his ears ar abck again to losing fur and scratching. I guess I will have to keep giving him the benadryl until the vet sees him again. :sigh:

I know this post is quite old but since people are always coming in and out looking for answers, let me just update. After so many trials and issues with Wallstreet, and so many food changes that didn't help, (he hates everything) the diagnosis is finally eosinophilic granuloma complex. We finally got fed up with spending money on false diagnosis from other vets so we decided to take him to a popular vet and we chose the ASPCA in NYC and they finally told us what the problem was. Unfortunately he will have to stay on steroid treatment for the rest of his little life. I give him half a tablet of 5mg prednisone and it seems to be helping. If for whatever reason I skip more than 2 days of med the symptoms start to show again. It even rid him of his diarrhea problem and his stools don't smell like scud missiles anymore.
