i have 3 cats, one is a kitty. the 2 adults have started puking, the one just about everyday now. besides that they are healthy, of good weight, they all run around playing all day. i suspect it has to do with hairballs or some type of food allergy and its only the dry food making them vomit...i think.

i feed them friskies wet and a brand of dry at the supermarket by rachel ray- which seemed pretty decent with natural ingredients. i have taken up all the dry food off the floor and will just feed them their wet for now. can someone suggest me a brand i can feed m guys that would have hairball remedy and also be hypoallergenic? its getting a little stressful here waking up to puke everyday. i can go to pet smart or tractor supply this weekend so and and all advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance.

Nature's Variety Limited is just what it sounds like...limited ingredients.  Many people use it for their cats who is sensitivities to certain foods.

For hypoallergenic cat food, most of those are actually by prescription from your Vet.

As far as feeding them Friskies canned food, are you feeding them the Pate?  Friskies Pates are actually an "ok" food, but the rest of the Friskies line have a lot of grains and carbs in them that could be the cause of them vomiting....it's just hard to know.

For hairballs, I used to give mine Temptations for Hairballs and that actually worked really well.  It says on the package to feed exactly 10 (I think, it was awhile ago when I did that).  Now I give them Vet's Best Hairball Relief Digestive Aid.  You can give up to TWO per day.

Vomiting can also be caused from cats overeating or eating too fast.  This usually is the case if they vomit immediately after eating.

If you kitties have hairballs you can try the hair ball remedies they sell at any pet store.   Its a gel your cats can lick off your finger.  You can also try canned pumpkin.   Personally, not a fan of the Temptation treats because of the ingredients.

You're smart to stop the dry food.    Do they still puke on strictly wet food?

Grain free wet is what I would feed and see if that helps.  If you're already feeding Friskies you can try Fancy Feast classic line.  Its the classic line that is grain free.  These 2 are probably one of the cheapest grain free wets but if you go to any pet store there's a variety of grain free wet to choose from

If they're gobbling their canned food and then being sick, try smearing it over a flat plate so that they have to slow down.

thanks for all the suggestions. yes i actually do feed them the friskies pate, i give them the regular temptations tumblers as treats so I'm definitely going to look for those and other hairball remedies as well. I'm also going to give the natures variety limited a try for their dry food. tonight will be the first night that the crunchies are being kept up so I'm not sure, hopefully tomorrow ill wake up to no more vomit.

When they vomit do you see hairballs in it?     Is there a lot of wretching when they vomit or does it come up easily more like regurgitation?  Is the vomit digested food or clear mucous liquid?

Switch to grain free canned supplement with vets best hairball relief tabs (sold on amazon)
Cut out the dry. It will all stop
I agree to the extent the cat is otherwise healthy and the vomiting is related to a food intolerance. As we know, cats vomit for a myriad of reasons. Either way, replacing the dry food is beneficial.

its basically my female cat with the problem. when i kept my 2 boys separated for the night and picked up the crunchies there was no puke. i went to pet smart and ended up getting science diet hairball remedy, it also said it was all natural with no artificial flavors or coloring. i also got the temptations hairball treats, and i picked up GNC hairball remedy treats as well that i found at pet smart. i decided to fully switch the crunchies instead of mixing with the old ones. kept my female cat separate for the night with a small amount of the new crunchies and she puked a little bit but not as much. its usually a mixture of clumps and fluid and i notice its usually in the morning when she does it. im going to continue with small portions of the new crunchies and the hairball treats and see what happens. if the puking continues i might take her off cruchies all together since she does fine on the wet.

OK, but keep an open mind that it could be virtually anything from a tummy parasite to the beginnings of a more chronic serious condition like IBD.   Hopefully the switch in food and the hairball relief does the trick though.   Good luck!

That works, my cat is living proof. Occasionally I will give her 5 to 10 bits of kibble as treat and still no vomiting. All is grain free no corn, wheat, soy, rice .

I would stick to wet. The temptations are bad!

thanks for all the advice, and yes i actually have been reading the ingredients on their food. i wasn't doing it with the temptations, cause i figured if it was only a treat here and there it would be ok but maye its better i stay away from them and look into a healthier snack as well. so far so good on the science diet. the female is still puking here and there but the piles are smaller and its less in frequency. i think it can be due to the change in dry food. if it doesn't completely ease up i will probably just keep her on wet only. cant stand to see my babies suffer at all!

I just posted this to another person with kitty throw up issues. Trust me, my cat threw up almost daily for twelve years. It didn't matter what food, or wet/dry. I used to ration her to half a can to keep it from happening :0( Below is what I posted to the other person

"My cat threw up for years. I just assumed she had a stomach disorder, or something along those lines. About three months ago, I started adding one packet of Purina Fortiflora a day to her food. It not only made her eat more, but the vomit almost went away entirely (Maybe once a month). I would give this a shot, read the reviews on Amazon on it and you'll see why I'm suggesting it. Good luck! "

thank you for that suggestion, its worth a shot at this point. the new dry food she was still puking everyday so for now i just have them on wet food only and all has been well, no throw up. i would like to find some dry food i can leave out tho so they can snack so i will definitely look into that.

even better reasons to just go with the wet food and forget the dry all together.
