Hi I'm Christel, and this is Argyle. He is just barely 6 weeks old. We have had him for 3 weeks. He was found with no litter mates or mom. We've had cats before but never this small. We began bottle feeding the little guy every 3 hours and did lots of research online about how to care for such a young kitty. I never thought I would be bottle feeding a baby much less a kitten. I knew nothing about formula or bottles (my human babies nursed and never took a bottle and now are 12 and 16). I never would gave guessed in a million years that you had to help them potty or that kittens needed burped! I was so glad when he slept all night a week or do later.

Boy has he grown and changed. Today he went all day with no bottle, just canned kitten food. I offered him the bottle but he wanted nothing to do with it. I'm not sure how much he should be eating but he ate a little over a can today. He does not like the formula mixed with the food. We tried it several times and he would have nothing to do with it. But yesterday whenbi offered him the food by itself he ate it up. He's not really drinking water, when he tries he puts his nose in it also and then gets it in his nose and gives up. And he wont drink formula from a bowl either. Any ideas how to teach him to drink out of a bowl?.

He has gotten so playful over the last week. Our family has watched him play instead of TV several nights. We have loved seeing him learn how to walk, try to run and trying to pounce on toys. He now climbs all our fabric furniture to get wherever he wants to go. That includes our legs when he wants our attention.

We have also have a 5 year old Golden Retriever named Bella that gas become his newest jungle gym. She is so patient and compliant. Just let's him climb all over her, fight with his legs, tail, ears... she just looks at us like how on do i have to let him do this. LOL After thoroughly exploring this big harry dog he then curles up with her to sleep.

We are totally in love with him and he is now part of the family. We do have a few questions...

How much should he be eating of the canned food? The can says 1 can for each 3 lbs of weight, but he is only 1 lb 6 oz and 6 weeks old.

He is really playing a lot but bit's and fights our hands. I know if he had litter mates they would be wrestling and all with them but we don't want him to get in the habit of biting us. How do we get him to understand that this is not acceptable?

Thanks for letting us join this group can't wait to get to know everyone's story and kitties!

View media item 245738 to TCS! Argyle is adorable.

Basically, growing kittens should eat as much as they want. It helps to stop playing as soon as the biting begins and to give some sort of verbal signal like an "ouch" or hiss to let him know that's unwanted behavior. Does he have stuffed toys or a "Kickeroo" to wrestle with?

Hi.

What a sweet kitten! He was lucky to have you as his foster mum. As @jcat said, just   let him eat as much as he wants. All kittens grow at different rates and there is no need to worry about him being over weight at his age. You can get special food formulated for kittens, which makes sure they get everything they need to grow and develop properly.

As he doesn't have any other cats to learn his manners from you'll have to teach him how to behave to. I'm sure your dog will help you out there. I try to make a sound like a kitten would if I get bitten or scratched, a high pitched MEW lets them know they're being too rough.

My 7 month old kitten couldn't work out how to drink from a bowl either. I found a flat plate was better then a deep bowl. he used to put his front paws in and splash around a lot, but he eventually got the hang of it. Does Argyle like running water from the tap? A lot of cats really like to drink running water.

Looking forward to seeing lots more pictures of Argyle as he grows up.

Thanks so much for the feeding advice. I will try the plate idea for his water.
