Is Direct Tv Genie a mistake?

My roommates want to "upgrade" our system to the Genie, but I have some concerns and questions that I am hoping someone can address. Here goes:

1. I currently have my own DVR in my bedroom that is just mine, and the roommates record all of their shows in the living room. We all record a lot of shows. My DVR only has 3% space left and theirs has about 10% left. None of us have been able to catch up because we do work, after all. If we get the Genie upgrade will all of our recorded shows be lost? That would suck.

2. Does the main unit, which will be in the living room, control all of the other televisions? For example, if they change the channel in the living room, will my channel be changed in my bedroom? If they delete a show that I like to watch on their DVR in the living room, will it be deleted from my DVR in the bedroom as well, and vice versa?

3. Is each DVR able to record 100 hours or will the space have to be shared between the bedroom and living room? Can 5 shows be recorded at once on each television or for both televisions combined?

4. Will I be able to create my own Favorites Channel list in the bedroom without deleting channels from the guide in the living room? I hate having to scroll through dozens of channels that I don't watch.

One of my roommates already made the call for them to come out on Friday and install it, so I am kind of stuck with it. I would just like to know what to expect. I sense that there could be some fights in the future.

Oh my.... I would have no idea on this one only because my hubby does all of the electronics and equipment set-up in our house. :anon: Yup - I guess I should learn someday. Hopefully someone who has the answer will chime in here so you can decide before the order/installation.
