Some of you know why I love hummingbirds. I just found this article:

http://news.yahoo.com/insights-hummingbird-travel-life-span-revealed-161925332.html

It says it doesn't know if they do long flights or do lay-overs, but I once read they can fly the Gulf of Mexico in one trip. Can you imagine those very tiny birds doing that??? They really are amazing little guys!

And to my crew, who must be nearing the end of their migration journey to warmer climes: I miss you, and wish you a safe and happy winter. See you in the Spring!

My sister in law and niece all said there were hummingbirds in the area where I live (Annapolis--25 miles due east of Washington, DC), but I thought, nay, they are too unique. I moved her two years ago.
Imagine my surprise when around July of this year I went outside, on my very small front porch and saw this *thing* just hanging around, literally. I had to blink several times before I realized it was a HUMMINGBIRD! I
I leave out bird seed in a feeder, but never hummingbird food. That may change next Spring.
They are amazing, delicate looking creatures.
