Hello everybody! I'm new here.
I hope you guys can help me
:rbheart:
Last night i noticed this one my precious Coco (he's a boy) I have no idea what this could be? Can it be treated at home?
I always overreact and usually end up at the emergency room for this reason, I love my babies so much but if I keep overreaction I'm going to be broke pretty soon.
I have never had cats before and Coco and Mimi are my everthing.

Just keep an eye on it.  If it changes color or shape, then visit the vet.

If it's a sore, you might put a bit of neosporin on it and see if that helps.

I'm afraid it could be ringworm :sigh: both ears are like that. at first I though it was a bug bite or something like that, but this morning it was crusty.

If it's just in the ears, it's more likely from scratching.  Keep an eye on it and if it gets bigger or you start seeing more spots in different places, then get to the vet.

This is how his ears are looking today. I don't know if this is from scratching or if it's ringworm or even food allergy

My cat would scratch inside and outside her ears similar to this due to food allergies. She would scratch and scratch until she would bleed. It's just one possibility though. :dk:

It's not reason enough for an ER vet, but as Stephanie mentioned, if there is no improvement or it gets worse you should make an appointment with your regular vet.

Honestly, the most recent pic does look like it may be ringworm.

The raised area in there does look like it might be.

What I do and have done with much success is get it coated with an athlete's foot cream that contains TURBINAFINE  or TURBINAFINE HYDROCHLORIDE  such as Lamisil.

This is a fungus killer, rather than only a fungicide like Tinactin is.

I keep a thin film of this cream on the areas at least most of the time. It will contain it and dry it up.

Your vet will be able to check it and advise you best for this.

Good luck!

In agreement that it looks to be possible ringworm or some sort of fungus. I would check the rest of your cats head by spreading the fur around to see if you notice any other sores. Does you cat go outside? Do you have other cats? Could they have been exposed to something?

You can also try using this on the spot: Colloidal Silver - at the very least four times per day. This is the one I have on hand It will kill ringworm plus any type of bacterial infection. BUT - before you use anything on your cat it is always best to check with a vet first and foremost.

IF you don't notice it getting bigger or spreading, then it very well could just be self-inflicted irritation and I will hope for that over the ringworm :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

This is how his ears are doing. It's not that red anymore.
I have two cats. Indoor only, I have no idea how he got that.
I just got my colloidal silver so I'm going to start putting it on his ear today. I've applying miconazole twice a day.
My other cat is fine, she doesn't have any sores or anything.

I'm not sure if I'm of any help at all, but my cat had a similar "episode" a few months back, and all I did was keep an eye on it. It went away on its own.

Within a week it went away. Still don't know what it was, and he was acting completely normally the whole time -- not scratching or pawing at it, doesn't seem to hurt when I touched that area, etc. Not saying you should ignore it (when in doubt, vet), but it might not be an emergency either. He went for a checkup last month and she didn't find anything wrong with the inner ear.

I think it's really difficult to tell by pictures and honestly, even a vet may want to take a sample and test to rule out some things. I've seen similar lesions due to scratching from earmites. It could be allergies and it certainly can be ringworm, as ringworm likes areas where there's less fur (it needs direct contact with the skin in order to take hold since it feeds off keratin, the protein that's in skin).

Ringworm sometimes disappears on its own, but in some cats, particularly in stressful situations, it can become an infestation and create an environmental problem. You can read more about ringworm here. Since it's in both ears now, I definitely would consult with a vet. Don't forget to let us know what he or she said, I'm really interested to know which it is.

It absolutely looks better than the first picture. The surrounding redness is completely gone! This is an excellent sign, I think. And, pretty amazing that FhiCat had a cat with a very similar sore in the ear.

Question though: Is this now in both ears? In a couple of your posts you use the word "ears" as opposed to "ear". IF this is now in both ears, then I would advise that you take your cat to the vet for a look, asap. It very well could be something that you cannot treat at home. IF it is still in the one ear and you see it healing up nicely, then you are on the right track with the CS and the miconazole as a preventative. Do keep us updated. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Yes, it was both ears. The sore in the right ear cleared up overnight with the CS and the redness is gone in the other ear too.

Glad to hear that the right ear completely cleared so that is a very good sign. I think you are keeping an extremely close watch on those ear sores. If the sores reappear, return or worsen, a vet visit is the way to go. I hope the left ear continues to heal nicely. :cross: :vibes::vibes:

If it's a parasite, find some food grade calcium bentonite clay to add to his food. There are lots of grades and types of clay.

Look for calcium bentonite GREEN clay from the Mojave Desert in California.

It's completely safe and non toxic and safe enough for pregnant and breast feeding women.

Check out http://earthslivingclay.com or http://www.drplechner.com for testimonials
I have two of Dr. Alfred Plechner's books - Pet's At Risk and the Pet Allergies book. I am very interested that he is standing behind and backing living clay and am interested for myself to look at the website.

As always, though, want to add in here (it's my duty, you know ;)) one should always consult with their vet before trying or using anything that one suggests on-line for their pets. Albeit, I am sure this is very safe.

You can also add food grade Diametacous earth to the cat food. That would do the trick and is not harmful at all. Many people put it in the food everyday. Excellent to kill parasites and de-worm. My vet also told me you can sprinkle it in the ears for mites.

Please take your kitty to the vet. It's worth it, especially to catch problems early.:rbheart:

This picture was from Friday, two days after the last picture I posted.

I took this one today. He has colloidal silver on, so his ear looks kind of dirty in both pictures.

It does appear to be better! If possible, apply the CS four times per day. Hope the sore continues to disappear, completely!!! :cross: Keep up with your regime. :vibes::vibes::vibes:
