I don't know weather anyone will see this, but im hearbroken and so upset.

Our special Marshmellow was 6months old a outdoor cat, perfect health, little shy, playful and VERY kind and loving, we got a knock on the door from our neighbour a couple of doors down saying she found a dead white cat in her alleyway, we went to see who it was and it was our Marshmellow he was collapsed on the floor like he was in a walking position and just suddenly fell, he had no cuts, no blood, no injuries, no foam at the mouth, nothing. We then phoned the vets to get him examined for what caused the death but it was 5 pound per minute then more money for him to get examined by a necropsy for actual cause of death we didn't have the money so we had a funeral, buried him in our back garden where he loved to play, we also planted some white flowers as Marshmellow was white with two little black spots on his head,

We just don't know what caused this as he had no bad heatlh signs, but thinking about it now he did have gunky eyes (not that bad), and he couldn't jump as good as his brother and sister, and he did sleep allot, but we just thought he was really lazy as his brother and sister are too. Does anybody have any idea what he died off? Sorry if my words seem alittle jumbled im writing this through tears as we only lost him yesterday and we all really really loved him and will never forget our special Marshmellow.

I am so sorry.  It's always hard but I think it's especially hard when they are so young.  I have no idea what happened and I don't think a necropsy would have made this any easier.  I think, given his age, that there was something congenital going on.

I'm so sorry for your loss, and can understand how devastating that must be!! There's no way to know what happened, but I would definitely try to focus on the pleasant times you had with him....one blessing is that by him being found so suddenly, he must not have suffered... so many kitties have such long hard illnesses that are "managed" but they still may be in pain or not feel well. It's so sad being he was so young...but along with living outside comes many times when we just don't know what's happened... again, I'm so sorry for your loss.

i agree with @Denice   it sounds congenital.  Some young cats die suddenly from cardiomyopathy, a heart condition.  I'm so sorry for your loss.

I have experienced this; so that was my thought.  I was in the room when my cat passed and I'll never forget it.  I'm so sorry for your loss.

I had the same thing happen to a 3 month old kitten last year. She seemed perfectly healthy, ate her breakfast, went off to play and a few hours later was found dead. There were no sign of injuries and she was in a place no cars could have got to. We thought it had to be something wrong with her heart. Her 18 month old brother and sister are still with me. They both seem fine but I always wonder.........

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sometimes these things can't be helped, no matter what we do.

I am so sorry for you loss, I have had the same thing happen with a kitten the same age, and we did do a necropsy because the vet offered us one free. He found various abnormalities of the liver and other internal organs and said that there would have been nothing anyone could do, even had we known in advance. These things just do sometimes happen. ANd it is always possible he got hit by a car and made it into the alley - there are not always external signs of injury.

On behalf of the Moderator team, we would like to express our sympathy. I will now close this thread as a mark of respect, and I hope you will find time to ope a special thread for Marshmallow in the 'Crossing the Bridge' forum.
