Yowling to get into room

Let me give you the back story.  I have a 6 year old male cat (who has never been fixed).  He is the only cat that we have.  In our house we keep two of the three rooms closed off and just use them for storage.  I will open one of the rooms on a daily basis because that is where I keep my clothes.  Midnight (my furbaby) will run in to investigate and he has sprayed in there.  Now everyday he yowls and yowls to get into that room.  I have given up before and just let him in but of course he sprays again and starts yowling again.  We have a new baby coming and I will be using that room more often and will have to leave the door open.  What should/can we do to stop his yowling and spraying?  I have attempted to put a litter box in there but it had not effect.  I'd like to rip up the carpet but we won't be able to do that until after the baby comes.  He has sprayed in our bedroom but stopped when we put out more litter boxes.  The last resort would be to get him fixed, but really see no need since he's or only cat.  Any suggestions on what to do?  Should I leave the door open all the time?

The easiest solution is to get him fixed.  His hormones are causing him to spray and yowl.  He cannot control it.  Please get him neutered.  There are usually low cost clinics available.  If you choose not to neuter him, he will continue to yowl and spray.  Once neutered ( which is such a simple procedure) his hormones will settle in a few weeks.

Being that he is 6 YEARS old, getting him fixed should stop the yowling and it can definitely reduce his risks of health problems (including cancer) from keeping an intact male... But, more than likely his spraying is too far ingrained into his brain.  It may not stop the spraying.  I am not saying for sure it won't.  But often, once they get to spraying and doing so for awhile, old habits die hard.

I agree that neutering really is needed.  Be sure you clean where he has sprayed with a good enzyme cleaner.  It may take more than one or two cleanings to get it all.  If he can smell it (even if you can't) it may attract him back.

I agree... The health benefits of neutering him are very substantial.  Not just for him, but for your house and peace of mind.  Often people believe neutering a male is not necessary but they don't understand the dangers of it, healthwise and on their home.  However, a lot of people are very discouraged by the fact that waiting for years after spraying has started that neutering their male did not stop it.  I just want you to be aware that it may no longer be a physical problem, but a psychological one.  Still, getting him neutered will be the first step toward correcting the problem.

I live with my friend, and at night we close the bedroom doors before we sleep because our too kittes about 9 months old just scratch and meow almost all night and I would let them in but there so restless and they keep me awake not oonly that but the female kitty will only sleep if shes on me and she eats my hair and licks my face all the time -_- also they both will ocationly pee on our beds so its best to lock them out, but its just trying to get them to stop scratching and meowing and everyone is just saying there cats they like to be everywere haha
